Will the cost for repeating the moonstorm eventually get cheaper?

Recommended Posts

One thing I really don't like about ROT is the the moonstorm. The initial experience is fine since I understand why the build costs are fairly high (as it's the first time doing the event). The problem is, it never gets cheaper then that. The only boons you get are every altar (which is nice for getting the moonstorm started, but doesn't help the moonstorm itself) and ~8-10 charged glass from the 3rd phase of the champion.

I always wish the costs got reduced, especially the moongleams/statics. The statics are difficult to grind bulk amounts of, and moongleams can't really be stored for more then a year without utilizing a player or using a ton of bug nets + bundles to store the statics for later use.

To give an example of how it is now, I spent a majority of my autumn/winter farming the materials, and was able to summon the champion 13 times during spring to benefit from it being wet. That sounds good, but that was the only thing I was practically focusing on. It also is made more difficult as I have a lot of builds on my world that get damaged whenever I do the moonstorm in it, especially areas with lots of walls/fences. Considering the only thing I mainly got from this is the crowns for lights, I do wish the cost was a bit easier for repeat kills. I don't mind the length of the fight, it's just that the prep to get to said fight is certainty not the most entertaining thing to do.

I think its fine this way but i can see why others dont.

Maybe make it so when cc drops the celestial orb, you can charge moonglass and generate moongleam.

But again i dont find it tedious, and realistically, klei most of the times (not always) doesnt changes previous mechanics.

Do you play solo, with friends or pubs, OP?

Game is balanced I reckon for up to 6 people (maximum number of players allowed in vanilla personal servers on PC), or 8 if we consider KLei official servers. But for the sake of argument and from what one can see in general pub populace, I would say KLei intended for its DST challenges to be tackled with certain ease by teams of 4-6 moderately knowledgeable people. Thing is those 4-6 people may or may not coordinate; and, if pubs, in time a large number of players will frequent a given, usually Endless long-term, server with next to no coordination at all. Meaning Moonstorm Event will be done by numerous people, not necessarily working as a team, but as many separate groups or solo players. Hence each-and-every one of those groups would want to experience event in its original form, not an "abbreviated" variant, just because a team was 1st at an early point in server's lifespan. I get people may not want to do Moonstorms in current iteration many times, yet for vast majority once is plenty, since pub goers desire 1-2 Crowns and that was it. Megabasers are a very tiny minority and if one chooses such style, it implies one assumes the bons and cons too - in this case con being perceived "tediousness" of soloing such event repeatedly.

I think it's fine in the context that like.. 10+ moonstorms aren't really something most people are going to do. It's grinding an activity way more than it was likely designed for, and most anything is gonna get grating if you do that, like for example actively farming the ruins, certain bosses, gnarwails, etc.

The shards Skye! The shards! Megabasers go INSANE without infinite light, and they will claw their way out of their 1000 day pit to do anything to get it. Now that they have an option that doesn't require fishing for the majority of their life, they are DESPERATE to grasp at it.

As a megabaser... Infinite light is neat but I still don't think the celestial champion was designed to be fought over and over to light up the whole entire world or anything, especially since you can just wear one of the enlightened crowns for traveling around the world and such. I have to feel like the infinite light from the shards is more for lighting up specific points of interest, which doesn't take many kills in my experience.

I do play solo a majority of the time, and occasionally sometimes with friends. I see what you mean about a general pub experience, and I can see why that's fair. I do imagine trying to get a server of people who frequent it crowns/light for their base would be a bit painful, but it does help how it's fairly evenly distributed.

While I can completely understand this opinion and I do respect it, some content that you can repeat can certainty still be fairly interesting to tackle if you give options to speed it up. For instance, I basically optimized everything I could in the ruins. I have cobblestones going to the specific biomes, all my clockworks are anenemied/pushed, and I even went as far as putting 2 houndius by each broken pseudo station (as I like smashing them for the grave trinkets, but mobs are also a very common occurrence as well). I didn't need to do any of this since I was clearing them just fine prior, but I did it since I thought it would be neat/fun project to see how quick you can clear the ruins if you reduce/remove a lot of the more difficult parts, and it certainty keeps me motivated to do them frequently enough.

The moonstorm in comparison is a bit harder to truly speed up. Specific weapons and strategies can certainty make getting statics significantly easier, but the moongleam/glass spawning is fairly consistent and there isn't any real way to quicken farming those 2 materials. It also can be much more inconvenient getting it in certain biomes as the moonstorm can basically go Anywhere that isn't the lunar island and/or the oasis desert.

I see what you mean by this. Most of my crown shards go into fueling up a bunch of my glowcap lights as lamp posts for my roads (especially in the caves where I think they look really nice), and not too many are used for lighting up builds (since most small-medium builds really only need 4-6 lamps at most). I can certainty do without it because the crown is more then enough for my needs, but I love the atmosphere of those lights too much to not want to continue them.

Throw the whole thing away, Wagstaff included. I don't enjoy that minigame whatsoever. I'd prefer if the boss just had a cooldown.

Now if the houndious was mobile.... I'd have a whole different perspective.

Something I like to do is use festive lights by switching over to Winter's feast temporarily.

They obviously aren't gonna cover your whole builds in light, but if used with the shards together they can light up quite a fair amount of area.

Not just that but at least for me some builds look cooler with a little less light.

I can understand if you don't want to do that though considering that's not the default setting.

Also, though it would take quite some time admitatively, using fireflies here and there can just the same add nice flair to builds, especially more natural ones. Only problem about them would be that they dissipate when approached, so they're not perfect if you wanna use light to stay in without needing the crown or other light sources.

That doesnt make sense, when you megabase you want the infinite light for the builds, technically you only need one crown for light but if you are at late game the crown is simply just a time saver (infinite miner hat) the purpose of megabasing is to make builds look pretty and that is what the shards are for.

When you megabase you might want to use the lights for some builds yeah, but I still would say the celestial champion was still probably not designed to be killed over and over to light up a HUGE amount of the world.

Also... megabasing isn't so stiff that you can state so confidently that "you want infinite light for builds" as like a generic statement about it, personally I have some to light up a few areas but otherwise make very natural builds where little lamp posts rarely ever fit in. It's a sandbox game, everyone's gonna megabase differently.

Disagreed, but yeah.

Regardless of whether it was INTENTED to be fought over and over again solo, it could just work like fuelweaver, where it drops your fossils back but not the heart. The meteor strike could just drop part of the ingredients, maybe just the completed first stage, or a broken version that takes more. It doesn't have to be super complicated, it could even have a chance to drop. Just something small would make a giant difference to people who do this on a giant scale, but not for those who do it once or twice.

Maybe but it should since the loot came from users suggestions

When people asked for infinity light they also explained why and in which state of the run will be welcome

I hate moonstorms only due to how much they cut from it.

zombie birds are lame

The concept art were way more cool and is sad to see they cut the changes that would suffer the moon island during the event

I already saw them but it's not what you described. Those are only concept for the graphics, how the wind could have been, ecc.... nothing about other mutants animals or different mechanics.
