Food preservation and duplicants' preference for fresher foods / smart fridge

Recommended Posts

I think new food preservation mechanics ask for including some food freshness preference for dupes. It should be way to setting like "dupes should prefer food at lest x% fresh" or maybe some kind of smart fridge shipping away bad food with conveyor belts (moders? klei?)

Store your food in a vacuum, you will not have spoilage :

Even unplugged fridged have this stats in vaccuum. :)

Its not about storage - its about mess halls. You have to dispense food in some way to dupes i.e. use convenient, free standing fridge where food slowly going stale and spoiled. BTW storing food in vacuum dosn't kill germs so its not ideal too. It would be nice to use radiation to sterilize food.

Chlorine is far easier

I'd prefer more interesting mechanics there though. Just dumping food into infinite storage is far too trivial and boring

Solution is make the food behave in vaccum the way everything else does. Not get frozen in vaccum and retain its temperature as it cannot exchange heat. This will compel players to come up with a deep freeze chambers instead of just using a liquid lock with vaccum. This will also make more durable food types more important as well.
