howling conch in DST?

Recommended Posts

heya there everyone

so this title might be a bit misleading but we know that klei are working on adding a item that will start rain upon being used so i wanted to make a thread so people can talk about how it will work and how it will be obtained

so i personally think  its just gonna cause some light rain for a day and a half or something

and i personally i really want it to be a crab king drop(by that i mean you get the recipe for it upon killing crab king).it would make a lot more people to actually consider fighting crab king and thats a good thing

what about you guys?how do think the rain item will work?and how do you think it will be obtained?

An ocarine made of sea shells pls klei

It will make CK worth to kill multiple times for having the recipe for each player in the server (buffing the striden triden will not hurt) and always is welcome a 'the legend of zelda' reference

Crab king would be an okay source for it i guess, but unless we get more "lore" on CK, it would make a lot less sense in comparison to the situation in Shipwrecked, where you need a drop from the Sealnado (a weather/storms themed boss) to craft the conch, an item that influences the weather.

Spoiler

(When it comes to crab king i really like a past suggestion to give him an armor drop that can be socketed with different gems for different effects.)

back to the dst conch: it could be a flute thats made with a Volt Goat horn and some other rarer magicy items/boss drop. What would make the most immediate sense is for it to involve Moose/Goose too, since she and her babies cause rain and lightning.

It could be down feathers, a Volt Goat horn and something magical, akin to the Weather Pain recipe, or it could require a new unqiue drop that comes from M/Goose herself instead of feathers. Could be an ancient-tier recipe as well requiring thulecite, since we know they were very proficient farmers/terraformers. would be perfect as a forgotten knowledge blueprint.

OR it could be something external, existing in the world like the Volcano Altar of Snackrifice that you have to make offers to in order to trigger/avoid rain. A creature or a structure

Sorry if this is unrelated, but I had a wet smoldering item in the caves and it put itself out before setting fire. I previously thought everything would set fire if it was left to smolder. Is this a new change or just confirmation bias? If its new then that's definitely a sign!

Where did they mention an item that causes rain? I haven't seen it yet.

Where has this been stated?

I can't find the post but maybe you can.

it was during the update where they fixed the exploit that you could keep the moslings in your world forever.
People complained that this was the only way to make rains during all summers and avoid wildfires, and Scott said they didn't know that was the reason why we did that, and that they will consider  adding an item to cast rains.

Actually I noticed that when it’s raining it’s almost impossible to set a forest on fire, not sure if that is intentional or not.. I know it ended up getting me killed when I expected forest fire, and I got a single tree fire and then the world went dark and cold :(

Also what in the world is howling conch? Lol it sounds so weird..

I would rather have Wickers rework summon rainfalls.

Hold on... we completely forgot about Dripple Pipes . The actual dedicated rain making item from SW since the function of the conch in SW is to create heavy winds, it only causes rain in the other two DLCs.

So yeah it could also just be a very cheap recipe like Dripple Pipes which require a water beefalo horn, NM fuel and rope and is crafted at the presihatitator...

looking forward to see how they decide to implement this! Lots of possibilities.
