Should Other Mechanics Be Reworked?

Should other mechanics be reworked?

  1. 1. Should any of these mechanics be changed? (try to pick a max of three options)

    • Fire rework
      17
    • Hitbox rework (eg: spider queen retargeting people stood behind her)
      15
    • Boss rework/tweak (eg: Ancient Guardian and ocean bosses)
      33
    • Just do the next character rework
      50
    • Biome tweak/rework (more mobs and mechanics specific to biomes)
      33
    • Cave changes/rework
      17
    • Weather changes/overhaul
      24
    • Boats suck
      34
    • Combat rework
      27
    • I don't consider the above options as necessary

1-cave rework

i would like to have a "caves only mode" and i think klei is working with that considering the forgotten knowledge release bug

2-weather rework.

shipwrecked storms are too fun to not be added to DST spring. please klei!

3-character reworks.

who doesnt love that?

what exactly?

during the first moments of the forgotten knowledge release, all players spawned at the cave's florid postern, and the world settings added the option "remove surface"

they quickly fixed this

Dont get my hopes up like that.. a caves only mode would force people who are scared of caves content to learn how to live in caves

People who said that sailing is slow did kill malbatross?

I cant sail with 2 malbatross sails without fear

can we talk about how Malbatross is  hard to find? Like, she has 3-5 possible spawn points per world, on entire frickin' ocean

Just give me waves for the sea.

No. Please no, for all that is absolutely holy, waves spawning naturally like they do in SW (I'm assuming this is what you're suggesting, correct me if I'm wrong) would be absolute hell.

Oh you wanna go somewhere? Too bad, theres DST waves pushing against you making it near impossible to go the direction you wanted.

If this was added, I think most people who enjoy sailing now would almost never go sailing again, and that includes me.

Hey!  That's mean.  I kind of want to punch that laughing face at the end of your sentence; it makes what you said _especially_ nasty.  The game isn't called "Don't Starve Underground"; it's called "Don't Starve Together" and that's it.  If people want to not bother with caves, what the heck does that have to do with _you_?  Leave other players alone to play how they play.  Don't try to bully or shame them into playing how YOU want.
Frankly, if I had to deal with the constant sanity-drain from being underground ALL the TIME, I'd have to stop playing.  That freaking drains _my_ sanity.

Anyway "rework" is very vague; I'd vote in this poll if I had any specific ideas of HOW I wanted something reworked.  I guess I'd like to see summer be more interesting (but please, no fire-spitting mobs.  We already have fire hounds!) and the biomes be more...biomey.   I mean, have more specific stuff that adds to their atmosphere.

--I actually wouldn't mind waves on the ocean if they were only as strong as they are in Shipwrecked, because there they don't STOP you from going a direction; they just make it harder.  Also they damage the boat, so boats would need to have more HP _but they already needed that anyway_.

--If waves are a no-go, how 'bout icebergs that form and disappear on the water the same way that mini-glaciers do on land?  With Celine-Dion-theme-song styled insta-death only happening if you CRASH into one at speed, not if you just gently nudge against it.  There's a mod for these already, but they seem like a natural part of the environment that should just...be there, to me.
Also then in winter the sea would be slightly less empty.

Your kinda forgetting that waves in Shipwrecked savagely crashed into SMALL vessels but the Boat cookie in particular is NOT a Small vessel the boat cookie would be more inline with a larger ship that pushes its way through waves.

The way they should work in DST is they rise up and roll over the surface of your boat (the boat is huge there’s easily room to dodge out of the way unless you cluttered it up with tons of structures)

So the TL:DR- Waves Approaching the Boat go over it, Waves the boat hits that are moving away from the boat pushes the boat forward with a small speed boost.

Like this-

I feel like if we had this.. it would also open up new doorways for smaller vessels (and Walani) to be added into the game.

And- in areas that would be too hazardous to have waves, Klei can let that area of the game have calmer oceans.

But that’s just my opinion, I think adding Waves could really speed up boat sailing, and also make the ocean a little less empty and void of any activity.

Edit: Also, well I mean... we literally have an Anchor we can drop, so there has to be SOMETHING Klei plans to do with that further.

Absolutely would love this! The ocean really needs some interactions with the seasons to feel apart of the world. The only seasonal content we havewso far are seasonal fishes. I really wanna see ice bergs, ice sheets, maybe hurricanes for spring? Though I think the last thing we need is even more danger while sailing haha. Something else for summer would be wonderful too but I havent thought of anything for that season.

I get the want to have some sort of speed boost out at the ocean, and I do like your idea a little better than just straight up waves crashing and slowing your boat, but I still dont think itd be the right away to go about it.

An idea i had a while ago for the ocean is ocean currents. Essentially they'd sorta be roads like on the main land but on the ocean! and they'd be animated flowing. A boat could hitch a ride on a current if it wanted to, or if it was going against the current it could simply get off, you could add other interactions with these currents just for funsies, like fish and ocean mobs taking advantage of the currents to travel where they'd like to.

Thanks for your input though, :D.

Oh god.  If we're having hurricanes in spring, bust out the chimineas!  Think rain putting out your fire quickly is bad?  Now try new Wind(tm)!  Guaranteed to make your nights darker, or your money back.

Seriously, the reason I picked (oldschool) Willow to play as in Shipwrecked is purely BECAUSE she had a light that never goes out she'd have no matter what, even when firewood ran low insanely fast...

....and then her insanity-fires trait caused her to burn down her own boat directly beneath her own feet.

Still one of my most forehead-slapping deaths ever.  XD

Anyway be careful what you wish for with wind, is what I'm saying.  The Shipwrecked version (to use our only franchise example) blows small items into the sea, sometimes knocks down trees (as hurricanes do in real life) and turns your fireplaces into DEVOURERS of firewood that leave even Wolfgang's mighty hunger in the dust.

But yeah I still do want the ocean to be more interesting.  In general.  : P

On the topic of having more fire mobs added to the game-

Spoiler

I must say that the forge had them.. (literal Magma Golems) so I would LOVE to see more fire based mobs in the Summer, there’s plenty of ways to deal with or limit the effects of fire, and with newer items being added to the game (like RWYS Watering can) putting out fires is becoming less and less of an issue, but having more fire based mobs would certainly make summer unique, and Webber’s Magmatic skin is begging to be a spider type that spits a small pool of lava on the ground exclusive to Summer season.

The more ways we get of countering fire, (Wigfrids fireproof song, Watering Can, Strident Trident, Ice-Flingo etc..) the more likely it is we will see more fire based mobs for Summer.

It is the fourth (and currently final) Season of what is supposed to be an uncompromising wilderness survival game, it rightfully deserves to be the hardest season to prepare for and have to endure.
