Best uses for Slingshot ammo

Recommended Posts

I know all the ammo but maybe you know a better use to those than me.

pe.JPG.dac1a5eb9e742a8a8a8406044952dd5f.JPG: To kill butterflies, get aggro from enemies, and make Wes fall into depression by breaking all his balloons.

gold.JPG.df430dd68cbd484204d71512cf7c88c5.JPG: To kill birds, moleworms, rabbits, make Krampus angry, and is a cheap ammo is you are friend of the fat King.

mar.JPG.a18e82c104f18649576b30370d8eda44.JPG: To real battles, but I don't know what mobs or bosses are better to fight with slingshot.

better.JPG.6a93ac62069f1f2213f892564007e842.JPG: Same as Marbles but better for slow mobs or ones that doesn't move.

metlty.JPG.c261e63cde083a8157381c801c736d04.JPG: They make the best damage but in the picture appear 3 and I can only use one. I think is a waste use them as ammo, they are better for trading.

poop.JPG.b2c63747af0e31340f9901f812bba580.JPG: They make the mobs lose the aggro but I don't know which mobs are affected and if the mob isn't alone the other ones are coming for me because I hit one of them (Spiders or hounds). When do you use those?

icenice.JPG.d75aa771413b28355dc0c2736670c12b.JPG: They are good to freeze a mob more quickly and doesn't make his friends mad, but for some battle like Crab King I think Ice staff works better.

slow.JPG.ff008b35f0f09764851baef3d843267a.JPG: The reason of I started this topic because I don't get it, Can they slow all mobs ? Which percent? 10%? I tried to shoot many mobs and I made a terrobeak slow a little. When are useful this ammo? Because freeze rounds works better.

Thanks for your time, and have a good day.:love_heart:

I'll Add my 2 cents of knowledge. Everything you said seems to be right, plus:

Pebbles: I mostly waste the first 10 into killing butterflies then only create them again as a cheap way to befriend rock lobsters.
A single stone lets you make 10 pebbles, and each pebble gives the same loyalty time as a full stone when fed to the rock lobsters, so you can get maximum loyalty time with just one stone.

Gold Rounds: This is your every day wasteful ammo, you can create them nearly for free as killing birds or rabbits will give you morsels which you can then turn into 10 gold rounds. Just shoot whatever you want with this.
Any round works but since this one is so easy to spam, they are specially good to deal with nightmare creatures as you can stunlock them as they spawn, if you keep pressing F.

Marbles round: Your serious fights ammo. Getting to have a permanent 40 marble tree farm somewhere will passively get you way more ammo than you can use in the long run, you just have to remember to come back to the farm once and then and mine them. As a matter of fact after 60+ days ingame time I replaced the gold rounds as the wasteful ammo with marble, given the large amount I got.

Cursed Rounds: Good for immobile enemies, mostly toadstool, or enemies you got stuck somewhere. Its the rusher's ammo of choice since they get a lot of it rushing the ruins fast, and they then rush FuelWeaver (FW) to get more ruins stuff, and so on and so forth.
If you go the rush FW path this will be your main ammo, although even by having done that I just felt it was wasteful, since its hard to carry many of them (you need to have them already made on you) and I personally still prefer marble, as you can carry a lot more ammo in a single stack of 40 marbles (you craft wherever you need). The tentacles, besides immobile enemies, will very rarely hit anything.

Melty Marbles: yeah, just don't. Make them gold.

Poop Pellets: They have a RNG chance to make enemies loose aggro. However since most enemies you'd use against have herd mentality (EG: Hounds) if any other hound nearby is aggro-ed towards you, the one you just made it lose aggro, will instantly re-aggro, making it pointless. It only works against single enemies mostly to confuse them, like Bishop clockworks. It's a great potential concept, sort of wasted in the actual numbers giving it niche uses.

Freeze round: A slower, more potent and more expensive ice staff. You can carry the equivalent of a lot of ice staves inside your slingshot due to being able to stack 60 shots, making it somewhat useful as a side weapon for the mid and late game, when you already have enough gems and moon rocks to spare.

Slow Rounds: They make enemies very slow in movement for 30 seconds, it can be useful in some situations (slowing down bosses, or fast running enemies like mactusk mostly) but its pricey, single target, and the time you lost shooting with it would probably have been used better to deal actual damage (they deal damage, but its tiny). I'd pass on these altogether unless you are on the late game already and have a million gems and moon rocks to spare.

Final thoughs - personal opinion:

Spoiler

At the end of the day Walter is not a very good ranged character. The slingshot is an okay-ish side weapon that can adapt to multiple uses according to your playstyle, but the true damage will still come from your dark sword or hambat in 90% of the fights. If you want a real damage dealing ranged character, go Wickerbottom, farm saffron feathers all winter, then capture/disease/release canaries the rest of the year for the yellow feathers (birds of the world makes this process a lot faster).
Wicker can also mass farm reeds, the other ingredient required for darts, with the applied horticulture book, and all the morsels you probably got by killing the winter birds can be turned to gold, for the electric darts.
Eventually you'll be doing a huge ranged DPS all year round, and darts can be shot like a machinegun.

Ive honestly only found 1 use for the poop pellets... which is a decent one
But its to steal eggs from tallbirds. If you take the egg, then shoot the tallbird with a poop pellet, it loses aggro on you for a few seconds, giving enough time to run away.

A couple tips for using gold rounds and poop pellets:

1.) If you plan on farming morsels try to make a friendly scarecrow to spawn canaries, they have a 91% morsel drop rate instead of the standard 50%.

2.) Not my discovery but I heard that the poop pellets are pretty useful to de-aggro a tallbird after you steal its egg.

It's very good for Malbtross imo. Malbatross likes to fly away from a boat and then blast the boat every few seconds with waves, you usually need a ranged weapon to agro her again and slingshot works really well for this.

The only one I’m going to comment on is poop pellets, at first glance these SOUND ridiculous, but they can be used to draw a single Beefalo out of its herd and to kill it by de-aggroing the rest away.

(this would be SUPER Useful if Klei would release a mode to where the only way of obtaining Beefalo wools.. is through chasing it down and killing it)

Poop Pellets can also be used to fuel campfires in a pinch.. out of Sticks or Grass or Whatever you need for a light source but got 80 poop pellets on you? Just toss them into a fire and your good to go!

Poop pellets however still remain to have one colossal missed opportunity- and that’s being able to fertilize and heal Wormwood at a distance.

This would be incredibly OP and broken- so in order To balance this change- if I Was a designer working at Klei I would make it so that Wortox souls couldn’t heal Wormwood.

It also makes sense- because Wormwood has no actual soul to heal.

(good thing I don’t work for Klei right?)

There may be other uses for Poop Pellets.. but these are the only ones I can think of.

Would slow down rounds work on someone like ancient guardian and Klaus?

As far as I know they do. Have never tried on Klaus though, but since it works on other giants I'd assume it does as well.

But for these specific cases, ancient guardian's charge is already super fast, so despite making it slower, it's still fast enough to outrun you. It will make it kiting it a little easier though. Although Walter's slingshot has an interrupt effect on AG which will cause it to stop the charge altogether if shot as soon as it starts so its better to just shoot damage pellets.

As for Klaus, It is already a rather slow enemy, but I suppose you can slow down the rate at which  it returns to his sack.
Freeze round is useful to stop the lava attack of the red deer, and Woby let's you outrun the second phase's attacks of Klaus, so I usually just do the second phase of the fight shooting marble/freeze pellets while riding Woby.
