I have a really uhh weird question I need to ask. As I’m sure many of you already know: Nintendo recently was given the rights to claim total ownership of gameplay mechanics where the player can capture, release & control the battle between entities.

While personally I feel like that’s total BS and Nintendo claiming rights to that will cause wide spread ripples throughout the entire gaming industry and NEVER should have been allowed to happen in the first place..

I have to ask Klei if this will affect games like DST? Where the player can: capture spiders inside grass traps, pick said spiders up and carry them in their inventory and then drop said spider on the ground to fight for them against other enemies..?

I don't think they would use their rights on anything that doesn't look like a pokemon copy, or at least I believe so, hope so.

Maybe, but also: Being able to summon an entity and directly command it is exactly what the Wendy Rework/Skill Tree update did..

Does anyone else NOT see the problem with Nintendo owning such a widespread patent?

DST would not be effected. You can google it, but no, DST does not have Capture/Battle mechanics as awarded in the patent. Obviously it's down to interpretation, as most legal battles are, and it doesn't rule out Nintendo filing but it would be a loose/weak case with confusing motivations.

This is hard to quantify, but has anyone else been having weirdness with deerclops and bearger spawning far away or not at all? Bearger has been popping unpredictably far away, and I had a deerclops go through the normal growls but not spawn at all, and then when summoned via hostile flare spawned like five screens away.

Does anyone know of a mod for the range of containers staying open that doesn't mess with opening the polar bearger bin while riding a beefalo or Woby's inventory while riding her? I have two mods but they both auto close the respect inventories when I try to open them. I've tried going vanilla but even building close together I can't stand not being able to walk more than 2 crock pots away without the salt box closing. There's something about being mounted that messes with the opening mechanic.

At least they'll still have the rights to DS, because spiders will be added to the inventory in a future update that will never happen 😁

Klei devs have been known to use the “Wavey” emote or “Spooky” pumpkin emote when they wanted to tease the Hallowed Nights or Shadow themed content update. So 10-2-2025?

Finally !!! Sex update is here !!!

There have been a lot of language barrier issues here, but this is probably the worst one on record.

This is a reference to the long-standing MINECRAFT SEX UPDATE joke. It often applies to other games like Palworld or Cult of the Lamb.

They're referencing the meme within some games odd dev choice to go with mating mechanics - they've not gone mad :p

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’re mad, but I don’t think they’re sober.

Sometimes I feel Hungry French is a superior version of me in every terms of how entertaining they are and in the Internet Points Battle.

Why can't you burn the costumes for Charlie's scene in a bonfire when you can burn them with a torch? No, seriously, why?

I’m assuming that it’s because Klei does not want players to have a cheap resource they can burn to keep a campfire going. Despite how drastically they’ve shifted the development focus of the franchise in the previous years: at its heart and core it’s still supposed to be an Uncompromising Survival Game.

As in: Your still expected to learn several complex gameplay mechanics and have to know how to juggle those things simultaneously at once as they occur.

and believe it or not: Klei still tends to think that managing a campfire with fuel is challenging..?

I don’t know, there’s literally a structure in the game used to break down other resources that aren’t burnable into smaller resources (like paper) that are.

Free fire fuel to keep warm in winter is prohibited, but you can burn your suit with a torch to keep warm 🙃 Brilliant...
