Have you ever come across a trap setpiece?

Have you ever come across a trap setpiece? Like the reed-trap for example? Me and my friend came across the "Developer graveyard" many months ago and since we were completely clueless we went and dug up every single grave! which of course spawned 18 ghosts that chased us down and eventually killed us. (this is not my screenshot)

Several times!

(put in spoilers 'cos I ended up doing STORYTIME rather than just _listing_ the traps I've seen.  Because of course I did.)

Spoiler

I briefly ran into both the winter and summer traps before they were taken out of Together (and then I was like:  "FINE!  Since I actually kind of _like_ having to think on my feet quickly due to an unexpected season change,  I'll just make my OWN random seasons! With blackjack and hookers!" and started playing with random season lengths shortly after that.)  and quite liked both...

One time, a failed winter trap gave me a lovely FREE FRIDGE ON DAY ONE!  WHOO!  And then another time, I was playing with a few Steam friends and one of them and I were out hunting a winter koalephant, when suddenly...

"Um.....why is everything all red...?"
"I'M SORRY, GUYS, I DIDN'T MEAN TO!"

ME:  (who carries random supplies on her at all times) *whips out endo fire*  *makes and gives straw hat*  (I've played Adventure Mode in RoG, where the climate is PSYCHOTIC, so I'd seen summer lighting on snow before.)

The Koalephant stayed as a winter one however, in case you were wondering.  We just...didn't need its trunk so much just then, anymore.  : P

--I've seen the reed traps several times, and usually get away with grabbing the beefalo hat in the middle by just darting in and out real fast.  (That's not to say I don't get lashed at ALL, but I do _live_.)

--I've also seen a (failed) rot trap, as I saw a weird random chest in the swamp, opened it and nothing happened.

--That beefalo-pen thing with the exploding chest seems to show up on a LOT of worlds, for me.

--The hounds surrounding a fire or ice staff...I found out that you can more safely get it if you preemptively attack a hound yourself, and, get this--THE OTHERS DON'T WAKE UP!  You can fight each one _singly_ and then get the staff!

One time, I had a noob on my server who saw one of those traps, and I was JUST about to explain the trick when he ran in, grabbed it like an idiot and...I'm not even kidding: They all aggroed on ME!  Dude!

--And, last but definitely not least, the actual Dev Graveyard shown at the top of this thread.  I've not only seen that, I _based_ near it.  That's why my favourite world's base was called "Camp One-Foot-in-the-Grave".  :)  But yeah, the ghosts were a pain at first.  But once I realised EVERY grave was gonna spawn a ghost, I stopped digging them all up and did it one at a time instead.

Then I came back there and ripped up all the flooring and mined down the statues for my own use, 'cos eff you, ghosts!  : P

@CaptainChaotica lol good times but those bad experiences actually helps and made you better at the game at least so it's a win-win in Rog I was new and I found the winter trap I didnt know what to do so I died to freezing

Funny thing is, I don't think of any of those as bad experiences, more like..."Huh.  Well now I know something."  The only one above I really had an objection to was when the fire-staff hounds started chasing THE WRONG PERSON!  XD

I personally ALWAYS carry logs and grass on me at all times, mainly so I don't get caught out by darkness but it also helps with sudden cold too.

Makes me wish for some set piece update later down the line that introduces a few new DST specific traps, just for fun. I understand why the Summer/Winter traps were removed, but I would like a few new dangerous traps and new scenery. :D

1 hour ago, Dr. Safety said:

Throwback to the trap that would change the season of the server and permanently desynchronize the season clock from the usual days.

The call of the void was too strong for me back then. I would open the chest every chance I got and watch the server burn.

And, if you're talking that chest with the fire staff in it, a lot of stuff would LITERALLY burn...

Me, I don't need no stinking Season Clock!  I gots me these!

Huh.  I wonder if it's going to be spring soon?

(actually that's a legit question on my servers; green trees in the snow could just as easily mean SUMMER.)

Fall is coming.

The cat is staring.

And, of course...

WINTER IS COMING.  (Finally got a better picture for this; turns out that of all the DS/T screenshots I've uploaded here, for some reason NONE of them have bare birch trees in them if it isn't already winter!  I was hoping for one with a group of trees where _some_ were bare and some still had leaves, to show the transition just starting to happen, but this'll work.

Meanwhile, the cherry tree is like:  "What's wrong, neighbor?  I feel fine!"  XD)

Summer's the only one you can't look at the trees to tell (and even if they don't tell you the exact day the way the Season Clock mod does, it at least lets you know the next season is SOON, so start making the appropriate clothing and such).  For that one, you gotta kinda watch for when your character starts panting and wiping their brow at the campfire.

...but if you get something like this, you're....you're on your own, I have no idea.  wut.

(Well, I suppose there comes a time in many young forests' lives when they're figuring out their seasonal identity...)

I'm still somewhat new, and just recently beat Adventure Mode for the first time two weeks ago. Everything was fine and dandy until chapter 5: Darkness. I accidentally got stuck in the tentacle reed trap and died, but THANKFULLY had a touchstone and a torch I left for myself. I was able to maneuver around the tentacles enough to get my stuff, but lost all the fireflies I managed to collect. This was literally within the first five minutes or so of the first in game day. Never again.

For DST, my friend and I found that one with the straw walls and spiders. Me, being greedy and attacking stuff on sight, triggered the trap and I think got her killed because she was playing Maxwell. Don't do that.
