Need more Arbor Acorns

Heya

My colony of over 500 cycles in the badlands has had a single arbor tree (in a hydroponics tile) for the last 200 cycles, yet no acorns has ever dropped from it. I've tried harvesting it with dupes, unchecking autoharvest and leaving it in a full stable with pips for at least 50 cycles, yet nothing comes of it other than lumber and dirt.
Meanwhile, my farm of reeds that started from only 3 seeds ages ago is now so overflowing with new seeds i have no idea what to do with them, and that's while only occasionally getting PH2O via an overflow sensor in my septic tank.

The Badlands biome starts with enough rust to make a 1:1 scale model of a post-apocalyptic city, and thus tonnes of nosh bean plants, but no way to feed them other than the few small pools of existing ethanol. I've been wanting to get into making spicy tofu for a long time, but it just doesnt seem to ever become viable.
(Not that I need it... I got enough pepper bread & surf n turf to last the rest of eternity at this point, its just for variety).

The in-game help doesn't give any indication on how to get more acorns, and neither does the wiki or any other online source i could find. The only hints i've gotten to this are in older posts in this forum saying i should use pips, but... yeah. that doesnt seem to do anything either.
I could possibly get more from the Living Planet (If i even have one. I haven't gone to space yet, because bleh...) but it just seems logical that the tree needs to be able to generate seeds _somehow_.

Pips will generate acorns from trees that are growing new branches. I think it's something like a 5% chance increase to drop a seed every time the tree grows a new branch. Originally, you had to dig out the branches manually using dupes, but a developer responded saying that was whack. I assume that means they fixed it so naturally generated branches also increase the chance.

Lots of trees + 1 pip and you're good.

You can also grow nosh beans wild using pips to avoid the ethanol requirement.

Alright. so, just more time, then.

And yes, i could grow them wild... but have you seen the frankly insane wild growth rate? The vast amount of space needed to compensate for it would be grand, indeed.

I've gotten the acorns from harvesting with a dupe as well before. I think the acorns just have a very low drop rate.

Cons: 3 times more space, 6 times more space for a no-labor tree farm (let branches mature and fall off naturally)

Pros: No fertilization. No watering. Possibly, no labor.

I'm running a single petrol generator at about 50% uptime. With harvest disabled, this should be enough trees to run it at 100%.

This. I was desperate for more acorns until I accidentally left a pip locked in with the trees. I never got a dupe to produce one on harvest, the pip made it rain like $100 bills in used car dealership commercials.

No anything except labor... I have 218 trees for 5 generators and I'm running a healthy lumber surplus, but only because I dupe-harvest. Self-harvest for trees is 18 cycles, they're just not worth the space then.

And for the record, the optimal spacing for trees is 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 1 0

But you can go as close as 0 1 0 1 0 1 ........ if the space you have available doesn't allow for that.

Ah, i think you misunderstood.

I was referring to growing nosh bean plats wild.
I wouldn't grow a tree wild unless i have, well, more than a single one. Getting more of those in the first place is the root of the problem.
(pun somewhat intended)
