Ranchers/critters ratio (more or less)

Recommended Posts

If possible to estimate (assuming ranchers are always nearby the stables):

  •  How many critters can be groomed constantly by one rancher?

If not possible to give an estimate:

  •  What are easy ways of checking if my ranchers are keeping up with the grooming tasks (without checking all the critters each cycle to check for the buff)

This is very base layout/schedule dependent. Don´t forget that the duration of the groomed buff is ranching skill dependent. [1,2 - 3,4 cycles]

So here is my prioritization, to track if my ranchers are doing there jobs:

  1. I set "ranching" as the highest priority task for all my ranchers.
  2. (Not needed, but this is what I do: I keep my priorities ordered incubators >> (auto) wrangling >> grooming.)
  3. I check the if my ranchers are performing a task of a lower category. [In my case operating - using a manual generator.]

You generally want to ranch something for what they produce.  The meat is a nice byproduct.

Setting people with high level skills at a higher priority is pretty important. I only really used it to restrict art before but everything from building to cooking is better ran by someone who is better at it.  It also shows how important specialization is.

The number also depends on skill level now. Since LU, each skillpoint in ranching extends the groomed buff by 10%. At skill level 20 the buff now lasts 3 cycles.

For me what this means is, use incubators and make sure your ranchers are hugging at least a few eggs each per day. It'll be worth it.

Something to know about the incubator is that eggs continue to hatch at their full buffed rate even if the incubator is currently off. You can set a timer to turn it on in the morning when your ranchers are likely to take care of it, and then turn it off the rest of the day.

Save yourself some power that way.

Seems like someone is cheating. :)  You are using things in a way not intended by the devs. :)  Hmmmmmmm.....  I guess I'll keep my incubators on and double my power production, and you can just turn your incubators off. We both end up the same. :)

Knowing about a cheat, and telling others about it does not necessarily imply that I have ever (intentionally) done it. I've just noticed that it happens if power goes out. ;)

That incubator thing is something I won't do either.  I'll stick a couple hundred paku in a 1x1 tile of water but you've gotta draw a line somewhere.

I once saw a video of someone putting 100 shine bugs in a glass box over a solar panel to get free energy.

Yeah that one is pretty good too.  Shinebugs are pretty much only good for power and shells.  Pacu have larger shells I think and drop fish meat.  Shinebugs are a lot cuter to ranch but are a pretty big waste of time.  You don't have to do anything with the fish at all.
