Faultz
Is there any internal testing when it comes to patches or is it just yolo throw it on beta? Last patch has made the game unplayable for a large majority and is riddled with bugs. I dont understand how something like this is released even into a beta. cezarica
Then what's the purpose of the beta if it's not for bug testing purposes on a wider player base?
Faultz
You do know there is typically a QA/Internal testing for games? I am just curious if they threw that out all together. Yes betas are for bug finding i totally agree, but this latest patch seems like obvious things just weren't even looked at all, as if its rushed. QA/Internal would find the big obvious bugs and the beta typically finds the least obvious ones while playing. For example they acknowledging memory issues with worlds in both pc and console version but then release an update with 3214245 sea stacks. shadowDigga
It doesn't seem they even have some internal division. That's why bugs delay content updates and vise-versa, when they work on content bug tracker remains unchecked by them for weeks. Same people working on different stuff, ultimately spending a lot of time on switching between them.

They don't have a massive 5000 developer workforce working on DST, it's something more like 10-20 devs working on DST at any given time. Spoiler Actually I think it's just Jason and Ipsquiggle working on DST RoT right now... Spoiler I'm just kidding, obviously. So if anybody were to be put on QA, then there'd be less people working on actually making the game. That's why they outsource it to us!

I don't think they have the time or people to test this any further than creating a new world and spawning stuff in it (which, by the way, does work as long as you don't go way overboard). As cezarica said, that's why these updates are being pushed into a beta. So that the players interested in helping out find these bugs and report them. Also, I don't think "memory issues" are necessarily referring to high entity count. It could be some sort of memory leak or something.
cezarica
Sure, they may have slipped out a few things, but keep in mind that they simply put don't have the man power to stress out everything. Instead they came out with these beta branches where everyone willing to participate can put his/her mind and creativity at work and help them iron out bugs that normally they wouldn't pop until very late. It's a win-win scenario: people get to test new stuff Klei is working on and they (Klei) iron bugs that would normally require a bigger team to test everything out. And I mean everything! The Chaotic Creativity of DST players is infinite, INFINITE I SAY! but seriously someone just glided over the entire map while performing boat jumping animation. CutChemist
I think Faulty is saying why they dont have a basic world they can also test the updates on. I too cannot play my beta world and it has become a little frustrating.
Faultz
Major things were let through that were obvious. It feels like the quality has gone down maybe because they are being rushed to hit dates they announced or what idk. This game has been out for a long time they know the community and their worlds mega bases etc. They held off on Tides going to main branch because they said they needed to fix it. I think this patch might of made it worse/more work for them. Yes the team is small blah blah i know that. I dont mind testing and reporting bugs it just feels like quality has gone down. snugglysnootertoot
I read the title as "Infernal Testing" and thought someone REALLY had something to get off their chest. Feel kinda let down now
