Whitecold
The rocket capsule currently swallows a dupe, and if you don't let them out, you will never notice they still exist. Capsules should have an oxygen gas port that needs to be refilled each mission Astro-dupes pop out of the capsule on return and cling on to the rocket waiting after landing if there is no gantry extended and they don't have a jet suit Capsules require food to be stocked. Space rations could be created from regular food sealed in plastic Capsules don't need to have an assigned pilot. If no pilot is assigned, any dupe with the profession can take up the job. Dupes only go and board once a rocket is ordered to launch

cpy
Can't rockets just be remote controlled since dupes are pointless anyway? Maybe dupe goes to some kind of control center to launch it. Using that control center may require space training or something.
bobucles
It does seem unusual that duplicants hold their breath for the entire space journey. It would seem prudent to give the command capsule some kind of need for food, oxygen or stored energy before the trip. The rocket's oxidizer does count as an oxygen supply, so maybe bumping up the oxygen requirements would make sense?
Coolthulhu
-1 for the "cling to the rocket" part. That's worse than the two other options that were tried so far: prison and dupes falling out like resources.
I_Link_I
Need for energy is not important. Most spacecrafts use part of the engine to generate power,as long as you have fuel you have power and without fuel you cant fly so its already done.

If you provide a gantry, they'll run off, which is what should encouraged IMHO

Rocket automation is in horrible state, with done-badly-by-design detectors (meteor scanner with its energy cost and detection randomness, used for rockets with fixed return time), wires melting unless you use finite tungsten, no way to detect when a dupe wants to get off the rocket. The only thing this would encourage would be tedious micromanagement, which is a red flag for design flaws.
Gwido
Some patches ago, the pilot was falling off the command capsule as soon as it was landed. And now, the duplicant don't fall anymore if you unasigned him when the gantry is not deployed. So, it's possible to have a duplicant automaticaly unasigned as soon as the rocket land who will wait for a gantry to come out of the capsule. And with a good system, you can automate the landing process.

The rocket automation could still use work but i understand waiting with it until the erlier game stuff is done.
