Klei games on steam sale

When i see how low the prices are, i hope they could make enough profit out of it.

There are 3 factors to this:

  1. people who won't buy unless it's on sale
  2. people who buy based on recommendations for friends/youtubers/whatever
  3. people who would have bought the games anyway

1 is an extra income. 2 will likely increase due to 1, particularly if decently watched youtube channels are included in 1. 3 is a financial loss.

It should be noted that due to the short duration of the sale, the people in 2 influenced by 1 will likely not really be aware of the games before the sale is over, hence buying games later at full price.

I'm not too worried about Klei doing this. I assume they made the decision of the sale carefully and it's based on figures and other info we don't know about. They obviously think it's a good idea or they wouldn't have done it. It's one of those things where nobody can be completely sure if it's a good idea or not without trying, but I'm not worried.

Steam takes 30% cut on games(after tax(7% in BC?)), sold at steam, not sure if that includes "sales" like this fresh and tasty offer..

That doesn't change a thing about what I wrote. If a game is sold for say $15, then the developer gets $10.5. With a 50% discount it becomes $7.50 in sale and $5.25 to the developer. This means a 50% sale means the developer will get 50% less for each sold copy. This means everything I wrote is valid with and without Steam fees.

Was not my intention, to change "your thing".
More of a support of a "thing", another well known and loved forum member said.

Well, I just got Invisible Inc., which I actually had planned to not buy. Should finance 10 developer minutes or so at Klei, which they otherwise would have to do without.

The idea that this is akin to selling physical goods is fundamentally flawed, if widespread. It is far more finding people that want to give you money and that is a whole different game. Entertainment has always been the second case and will always be the second case.  Unless we eventually manage to get rid of money, in which case it will be about attention. Also, software today has almost no cost associated with creating additional copies, hence each additional sale, even if heavily discounted, is a net gain.

Fantastic! I will buy a DST copy for my brother as a gift.

Hahaha! He will rip so hard in the beginning. I will laugh tears when beefalos hunt his sorry ass :D

Totally luv that game! Who has not played it should totally grab a copy.

Btw. I'm not affiliated with klei in any way. Usually i don't tell people to buy anything! But seriously this game is awesome.
