Here is my personal guide of how I layout my base, using a Summer base and a Winter base, to counter the Deerclops.

The reason for the Summer base and the Winter base is that Deerclops spawn and move near the player, so if you are at the winter base Deerclops can't destroy you unrenewable stone structures and the poor pig houses and bee boxes!

The Winterbase is made out of only renewable materials, besides the Icebox meaning you can brawl with Deerclops all you want without having to worry about rebuilding your base every time and running out of stone.

I am trying to start from scratch and the only tough things that really need to be fixed that I've noticed is that winter needs to come on day 30 at least the first time... and I should be able to kill spiders a little easier.....

Where would you guys place your winter camp ? Near pig camp or beefalos ? Or other mods like the fishmen or spiders ? What make the better allies or is it better to just try and 1v1 the deerclops ?

Well, pig villages shouldn't be messed with, they're very valuable. If you're short on food, you should let the Deerclops attack the beefalos. Getting 2 spiders queens to spawn, and letting the Deerclops pummel them is the best way to get rid of each other. I DO NOT suggest 1v1ing the Deerclops, he drains your sanity very quickly. The Deerclops is quite difficult to kite, actually.

I've never really had a base like many of you have, but I've always had two seperate camps, simply because Winter brings too many changes to a relatively unexperienced player like me.The only reliable food source in the winter is a dense cluster of savannah rabbit holes, which I've never really been able to locate right next to what's optimal in summer: beefalo grazing planes with a grassland biotope filled with naturally occurring grass, berries and twigs. (I'm not willing to fertilize those manually)Most worlds have a large savannah where beefalo are present next to rabbits, but then naturally occuring berries, gras and twigs are miles away. So it was always logical for me to spread out for both seasons. In the winter I have a bare-bone rabbit trapper camp, with drying racks and a tent. In the summer I've now recently began constructing a grassland farmhouse next to beefalo, ponds and forestspiders, with all the other luxuries like Alchemy engines, Crock Pots, farmplots and beeboxes.I do wonder though... do chesspiece monsters respawn, and do gears drop when deerclops breaks refridgerators? In other words, are gears a renewable or lasting resource? That will help me decide to put refridgerators in my winter trapper camp.

No, scratch my previous comment...To be on the safe side, build a summer base and TWO WINTER TRAPPER CAMPS.I've just had deerclops over as a guest for the first time and while I was suprised he didn't actively tried to kill me, he did act like a unwelcome squatter by hanging around camp and constantly breaking random stuff. Worst monster in the game is not as lethal as I had imagined, but he is annoying. Build a second winter camp toward another cluster of rabbits and simply ignore the giant toddler.

it took a lot of beefalos to kill that guy..

I do like having separate campsites though. I usually take over the farm where the potatoes head is found as one of them, then another near beefalos.
