Cleaning water with Chlorine

Recommended Posts

Something I've been wondering about for some time; is the rate of disinfection proportional to the pressure of Chlorine gas that it's immersed in, does the rate change at all.  Is it worth bothering to pressurise the chlorine above 2kg with a high pressure vent?

No,  the pressure of chlorine has no bearing on it's disinfection rate.  It's a flat 100% per cycle death rate.  High pressure will prevent any offgassing from occurring by other materials though.  1800 or greater.  Might matter depending on your setup or not.

I'm confused. What do you need germ free water for

the polluted dirt from a water sieve is more dangerous than the water itself as Dupes will tend to get covered in germs transporting and moving it and not have a chance to wash their hands before handling food

Also if you allow germy water into the water cooler that's a quick way to get your whole Colony sick real fast

First time I've heard a reasonable explanation.

I solve that little issue by keeping grey water away from my fresh water supply. I dump the excess into a reed plant.

The only germs I've ever been concerned about are slimelung. I take care that issue by careful handling of slime.

This works great, if you have a source of germ-free water.  I'm working with a map right now that only has infected geysers and its a pain in the butt.

Also, it seems that as soon as the game says "Chlorine" the effect is there. Does not mater if it is only 1mg.

Still if you're going to have a decontamination room you might as well make it over 1.8kg so you can store slime there

True. Also useful if you are going to have anything else in there that could off-gas.

I usually use Chlorine just for food-storage to get rid of the "what is this crap you are feeding us?" emote.
