Drecko and balm lily

Hi Guys,

How many Balm Lily should I plan for each Drecko?

The ONI Biology topic that sums all infos on critters says it's 2 plants for a normal drecko and 3 for a glossy drecko.

Here is the topic :

Spoiler

first of all you need to clarify what you try to achieve?

1. Normal drecko for food

2. Normal drecko for phosporeus

3. Normal drecko for fiber/plastic

now:

1. you want drecko to give you eggs and die to give you meat - 1 plant each should be enough to achieve that (might be some tweaking).metabolism can go to hell.  incubator! After drecko will give two eggs - move it to other room to die.

2. you want dreckos to be full all the time - so they don't get debuff for being cramped etc - give them 3 balm lily each

3. don't worry about metabolism - it does not affect how often you can sheer drecko - 2 balm lilly each, maybe some water limits as well - just enough to get them going whole life but they can be hungry

It all depends on the type of drecko you want to ranch. Normal dreckos will not starve with 2 lilies. Glossy needs 3 plants AND they can't eat lilies.

Given balm lillies don't require any resources to grow, you might actually want to keep them fed at all times. That way you will get the most out of the drecko at all times, whether your primary goal is meat, eggs, phosphorite or fiber/plastic.

However, as far as I know glossy drecko's do not eat balm lillies. And, to grow fiber/plastic you need a ranch build that maximizes hydrogen time while limited chlorine/CO2 down to the bare minimum required for the plants. If the main goal is to slaughter them for meat, then of course you don't need to worry about this. Just shear them when they are fully grown and then butcher it for the meat.

In my opinion, they are a lot more valuable alive. Plastic has already been a very important late game resource, and reed fiber has become very important as well for decor items and exosuits. Given that domestic grown thimble reed is redicously expensive in terms of consumed polluted water, and that the polymer press is higher tech plus difficult to cool, drecko's, both normal and glossy, are IMO crucial resources.

true - the idea os more or less the same though for different plants. 1 for food, 2 for plastic/fiber, 3 for phosphorous,

Thx for that, i removed glossy from thread (i was going to make much longer with all 6 possibilities for glossy and normal but it is pointless.

Is it not like they still require farm time to plant them etc?

i usually keep dreckos for meat so i exceed limit of 8 per farm (to 30) and plant 30 balm lilies so they eat every stage of it.

I never tested if balm lillies actually needs some work (apart of planting them) - but you might be right and after 1st planting they do not need to replant. I will try to get more of them in the room (they will get huge debuff for being cramped) - and see if i can get more meat out of them.

I am farily certain lilys require no duplicant interaction after they're planted. They will just keep growing after they're eaten and taken down to 0%

(as long as you disable autoharvest)

While it's true you need a lot of thimble reed with QoL update you don't need an unlimited amount.  There is more than enough PW spawned in the map for reed farming.

I do agree about glossy dreckos, the polymer press is too much a hastle

They eat the plants directly so it's best to disable harvest on them.

Yep. It took me like 100 cycles before i figure this out. My farmer was constantly busy and i had 1 small mushroom farm and 5 drecko stables and mushrooms never got harvested XD. That was i think my 1st facepalm in this game. Good old times XD
