Teaser trailer content

Bit annoyed when trailer show content not in game. Not like cinematic trailer bits can't be made into game element; feeding shown in DST trailer actually exist as mechanic in game (don't have cool animation for it tho). So, here is teaser trailer, some suggestion for what should be in game based on it:

* Trip vine. Vines you trip on, can drop item (kind of like sneeze mechanic, but may be farther distance drop) and stun for moment, having player to wake up. Can give jungle extra danger :) can see at 0:04

* Pig pick up treasure. Some pig only take food or oinc, but not relics, even tho shown in trailer. May be certain pig types take specific special items on ground? Can see at 0:10

* Mayor pig out of house. Only seen once in closed beta this happen, not seen since. Mayor pig always inside. May be have some times when shop-keep type pig actually get out of house? Can see at 0:11

* Hamlet decid tree biome. Doesn't exist in game, just some decid tree in town. Trailer seem to show decid biome before town and tea tree in town, but in game other way round. Minor thing, but still special decid tree biome is nice to have. Can see at 0:11 as well. And decor bush in same biome and not just town at 0:12 and 0:15

* Red jungle bush and new trees. Jungle has no bushes at all and these odd jungle trees not exist in game, just palmy ones. Can see at 0:06 and 0:13

Just some trailer stuff misleading before, and this can make good mechanics in game anyway. Gameplay trailers too have misleading cinematics. Most of this stuff would be good for game and not hard to implement. Either way, false advertising not good.

Could you just imagine if you fell because of a damn vine while being chased by 20 beetles. This aint no horror movie about tripping on everything.

actually..

Hmmmmm... the possibilities

To be fair, Don't Starve had a way more creepy vibe and overall more Morbid/Darker Tone to it in it's earlier days that I oh so badly miss, though, tripping over a vine sounds like a great way to end up in the Morgue.

Ouch, I commented right as you replied. But yeah, I see where you're coming from!

The problem is don't satrve's art style. Tripping over a vine would look good in realistic graphics, 3rd person point of view types of games but not ds. Just imagine this: Like a 0.5 sec animation of character tripping down (something like from the forge) and the sound of taking dmg… this wouldn't make the players go "Ooohhh nice atmosphere" but instead they'd go "This mechanic is so stupid why was it added?".

Trip vines would be another "avoid these" element in the jungle and we already have hanging vines.

Honestly, the whole Forge thing is exactly what I was thinking, without such a large gap. But with Forge in mind, if we don't need to add vine tripping, how about giving the Spider Ape's a decent punch? Like the Boarilla. Like, currently Spider Apes deal the same damage as a spider, AFTER their buff! They did less than catcoon damage at first, and honestly, me, if I were to have my face smashed in by an 8 armed Gorilla, I'd go flying.

but ... don't catcoons deal more damage than spiders?

You're right, but it did less than Catcoon. Take a smidge bit of context away, and you've got yourself an 8 legged Spider Gorilla that's weaker than a cat.
