alainmcd
Player 1: Place player 2's first symbol in all six slots. Press the button. Player 2: Place player 1's first symbol in the first slot and fill the rest with a symbol that player 1 DOESN'T have. Press the button to check if it's in the right place. If not, swap the first rune (the one player 1 does have) to the next place and press to check until you have one match. Remove all runes except player 1's first. Player 1: Remove all runes except the one in the same place where player 2 left your first symbol. Fill the rest with player 2's second symbol and press the button. Player 2: Place player 1's second symbol in the first open slot and fill the rest with wrong symbols again. Swap and check until you find the second match. Remember not to move the first match. Once you find the right spot, remove the filler. Player 1: Remove all runes except the two matches. Fill with player 2's third symbol and press the button. Repeat. rezecib
I wrote up a faster algorithm here. I believe it is optimal or near-optimal in terms of number of submissions used.

alainmcd
@rezecib, either way is fine if you ask me as long as people solve the puzzle. I went for simplicity rather than optimal move count since it's relatively forgiving.
Parusoid
What's the reward for solving?
alainmcd
@Parusoid, part 2 gives you the answer to part 3. Solving part 3 gives you two new skins and "unlocks" the teaser.

Sarsapiri
isn't this timed/ limited on tries? because when my partner and I go to do this, we usually run out of tries/time, often by the third one
alainmcd
@Chaos2, there is a limit on tries, not sure how many, but you should be OK as long as you're not constantly pressing the button. The way it works, as I understand it, is that every press of the button counts as a try for both of you, updates the state of the player who presses the button and checks both players. So if one of you presses the button without making any changes on their side, you're just wasting your tries. In the setup I described in the OP, player 1 only presses the button 6 times and player 2 presses it at most 21 times (up to six for the first, up to five for the second, etc.).
