Shearing station works without a stable

Recommended Posts

Grooming and shearing work perfectly on wild critters or critters in an "open" ranch, but there are reasons to enclose them.

  1. Auto-wrangling: with the critter dropoff, you can set "auto-wrangle extra critters" to a threshold of whatever you like, and dupes will wrangle any critters that exceed that limit. You can transport them to a drowning room or whatever you want. This works in an open ranch too, but less control.
  2. Critter speed: if you set a shearing or grooming station in an open ranch, it can take targeted critter ages to make their way over to the rancher. The rancher is stuck sitting in one spot wasting time while the slow critter crawls over. This can lead to suffocation, or just loads of wasted time. Better to enclose them in a room.

Once they finally arrive they don't move very far from the grooming station + shearing station though.

They come from far and wide for their haircuts.
First there was one. Now there are many.

I hope they also make the maximum room size larger if they plan on “fixing” it. After the very start I don’t think I’ve ever made a valid sized ranching room.  That would be a nightmare. 96 tiles?  You could only fit like 4 puffs in one room.
