Space scanner quality?

Recommended Posts

So I built some bunker doors, a solar panel, 3 space scanners, and some batteries underneath.  The scanner says it's quality is only 5% due to interference from nearby heavy machinery.  How does that work?  Also I manually clicked unlock on the bunker doors and waited forever for them to open with no power, then the scanner went off, activated the automation signal, and the doors went back to the locked state and started closing.  The scanners lost power and the automation signal shut off, but the doors remain locked.  How are they supposed to open again after the shower?  It looks like you have to send a dupe to manually open it again.

Ok, this is really stupid.  Just got a scanner going off saying meteors are incoming and my door that was still closed is now opening.  So the automation signal to a bunker door being active simply toggles its state, I guess only after it has finished fully opening or closing.  WTF?  Ok, even weirder: I disabled the scanner and that cutt the automation signal and the doors closed.

Ok a few things

1)  Scanners work best then they are far away from other machines and each other, space them out at least 10 tiles apart

2)  Bunkers open when receiving an ON automation signal, scanners send out an ON signal when detecting meteors so you'll need a NOT gate to close the bunkers

3)  Transformers and batteries will overheat quickly in a vacuum, build them in their own environment to keep them cool

do you have cold water to spare?

How much is it going to take?  Water has a high heat capacity so a few kgs should be able to keep it cool for quite some time no?

Also can you build the scanner on glass tiles then have a solar panel 10 tiles below?

you'll still have to build an environment for it, liquids and gases vent away in space

yes, mesh tiles work too as for some reason surface light passes though them

Liquids disappear in space similar to gasses so you will have to continuosly drip water there.

That will work just fine.

Are you sure about that?  I thought they removed that a while ago.  We had to redo our modular farms and everything.

yes

mesh will block light from printing pods, lamps, ceiling lights, and shine bugs.

but NOT surface light

Not exactly.  You just need a row of Drywall in the tiles the puddle is to occupy.  Once the puddle is established, simply cool it from underneath, like Radiant Pipes inside the floor tile.  The puddle will then be a transfer medium between the floor tile and whatever equipment is placed there.

ok just don't try to do this on glass with solar panels underneath

light doesn't travel though liquids well

Ohh.  I guess I'll have to keep the batteries under the solar without scanners above them.  Or does the solar need cooling too?  And will radiant pipes not exchange heat with the machines without gas or liquid?

nope panels don't generate heat, you got the right idea about placing batteries underneath them

the only reason I keep my solar panels cool is I'm transferring heat though them to keep my robo-miners, sweepers, and loaders cool.

But that's not necessary, a radiant pipe with coolant in the glass can work too

Why crappy batteries instead of smart batteries?

when dealing with solar panels you need to go for max storage capacity

And don't they also exchange heat with the tile they are sitting on

no batteries, and other machines are perfectly insulated in a vacuum, they only exchange heat with gas, liquids, or solids (when entombed)

Neotuck, why did you build the tiles in between the rows of batteries out of bunker tiles? You must have lots of steel. Also, I assume you have a row of bunker doors above the robo miners, out of the picture? Are there any good tutorials around for solar power and controlling the opening of the bunker doors with the space scanner? I'm in space for the first time, previously when I played this game there was no space, and the top was sealed off.

Thanks.

Theres no reason to use bunkertiles.

But because its built on debug/sandbox its For aesthetics.
