Making community challenges a separate forum was a mistake

Recommended Posts

I once thought creating a separate forum for community challenges was a good idea.  It would help self-organize them so that I and others could find them and try them out without having to do quite lengthy searches through the general discussion forums (which are quite crowded).  Unfortunately, this did not have the effect I wanted.  People appear to almost never say anything in it.  I think this is partially because it is not as prominent as the suggestions or the general discussions.  I doubt the people in general lost interest in the concept.

I feel that the discussions on this topic were strangled by the lack of traffic.  I liked playing maps like heat death, but they aren't being made anymore.  I think there are two potential solutions:

  1. Reintegrate community challenges in to general discussion forums so everyone can see it.
  2. Move community challenges on the list to under general discussions so new players will see the section.

In short, I had an idea.  It was implemented.  It was a bad idea.  I am now filled with guilt.  Please fix it.

For myself i can self, i ignored them from the beginning. And now, while they are in a subform, ignoring ist going much smoother.

Maybe people dont want to participate in challenges at the moment?

I don't care to participate in most of what goes on in the general discussions forum.  My conclusion isn't that the things I don't care about shouldn't be there.  It is that I scroll past them and read something else.

Besides, if people lost interest in challenges in general, then them being in the general discussions should have no effect.  However, if it is a traffic problem that is strangling the discussion, then I get to play more custom maps!  But the discussions were never so common that they clogged the forums.

@Zarquan, try reaching out to a moderator and maybe they can sticky a notice in the general discussion regarding the forum subsections. I noticed when they made that change, my bookmark for the forums broke and I had to reconfigure it - this was the only way I found out about the new sections.  Maybe @ImDaMisterL would be someone to reach out to..

i do agree with the problem that the community challenge forums are to far down but i dont think it would make a big difference

also i dont think this is the reason community challenges are not being made, im trying to take time to put a lot of effort into the maps i make
