malloc Posted September 15, 2018 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Each fuel tank gives 20k range before weight of the ship is deducted. Ship weight in tons of steel reduces the range by 1 kg/km i.e. 1 ton reduces range 1k km. Three fuel tanks will give you max range with nearly infinite storage. Once you build the first rocket go to the starmap and the breakdown is on the left panel. If you use the steam engine you don't need petroleum, but you can reach only 10000 km planets, Whit petroleum engine whit one oxidizer tank and one liquid fuel tank you can reach 30000 km planets, adding the second fuel tank will get you further. But with Solid Boosters, can't you reach 30,000 km destinations with the Steam Engine? I thought that was the conclusion of the other thread -- Solid Boosters allow you to push a 4 Research Module Steam Rocket to 30,000 km locations. Do you have an oxydizer tank? Petroleum needs an oxydizer. You`ll need to load 3.7t of oxylite or liquidoxygen to get the maximum thrust off your rocket. Without it the rocket is not going anywhere. To much iron. I prefer to wait a little and use the petroleum engine and the iron converted it in steel for better use. Make more petrol, or open a tradestation and set the reciever to "GPS:x7689y8977667z765766". I could send you 500 T Petrol for 200 T steel.
