New Update today?

So is there a reason for me to start over for today's update?

I already have a chlorine geyser on my current map.

What am I missing exactly by not restarting?

Only the fossils in the magma biome.

The update comes around 6pm UTC.

Unless the developers suddenly add something else, then you will not need a new map unless you really want the fossils... but who knows!

Yes, often we have unreveal content on the release patch. But it's pretty rare it concerns the map generation.

Fossils is what slime and lime?     I don't think im missing out on that since I can produce slime from pufts and lime from eggs

If you have an oil boiler, it will break.  Actually, not so much break as start producing a worthless gas.  

 

Fossils are an easy way to get to lime.  You need a lot more steel in this release to build rockets.

You can crush it into sand and lime iirc. It`s like 5kg lime out of 100kg of fossils. It`s a good way to kickstart your steel production.

I am playing without fossils. It is slow, but playable.

You will have to rely more heavily on critter farming for egg shells. And it will only be a problem/delay once you reach the surface and need to build bunker doors and rocketry tech.

There seems to be ongoing debate as to the truth here.  Some people are reporting that Meteor Season correctly waits for the player to discover the surface to begin.  Others are reporting that before they even attempt to scout towards the surface, Meteor impacts can be heard and Biomes begin taking damage.

Well, i assumed that if you consider continuing your current colony, you are content with the existing damage to the surface. My entire surface is in ruins (at least 1 biome layer is completely gone, might be even 1,5), but i still continue. If i wasn't, i could have started over waaaay before RU, because afaik abysalite is surviving meteors now.
