The warping of physical material doesn't seem to be that important, metal, exoskeleton, or flesh to scale. Don't think that's very important. Just my opinion. I assume that either their thought melts away slowly or those are their few seconds of sanity. There's tons of magic in Don't Starve, I'm sure it's possible to be reverted to normal form. But if you all turn to mindless Merms, then that's a true loss.
