New decor item: Fanart frame

Recommended Posts

Dupes can currently decorate their rooms with artworks, which can be a duped version of "The Scream", "Mona Lisa"  and some Frida Kahlo painting.

While they seem quite nice and in-universe, they are also pretty repetitive and i fully understand that the kLei artists have better things to focus on at the moment than more canvas art.

However if you care to check over at the arts forum (e.g.

)

You will quickly find out that there are a few more artists around, that are perfectly capable to draw in-universe artwork too. Their artworks are already used in parts of the "Rhymes with Play" stream, which is a nice appreciation of their talents.

I want to suggest a further step. Create a thread where artists are able to post their cleaned up versions of fan art (with respect to be put into a frame ingame later on (no text, not too detailed)). By posting the artists allow kLei to use the (original) art inside of the game. kLei picks a handful of those inputs each update and crops them.

A new decor canvas building is created, which will display a random fanart of the current month (can be all-time as well).

I am not sure how hard it is to put fan-art into a game on a legal ground, but i am sure it would be a worthy investment of development time and a nice appreciation of our fellow pen-swingers.

If adding fanart directly into the game is too much of a stretch legal-wise, it might be a good compromise to add a customizable frame that players can fill with imported art on their own.

That art could then come directly from the steam workshop, where users can post their art as gallery-packages under the usual steam workshop rules.

users could happily tick or untick those bundles as well as add local files (of certain format) and have all the art they like in the game.

I am pretty sure the steam workshop has a safeguard against that. Otherwise you would see unmoderated content in other games as well.

And if people chose to use images in some kind of local import, i'd be inclined to say that it's alright, because it is just affecting them. However, this might create another problem, if they take screenshots and upload them somewhere, since that might appear as ingame footage. So maybe your point is not entirely refutable.

Yeaaa...that's gonna happen in any system where players can upload custom images.
I'm a fan of the Steam idea. Then Klei's at no direct fault, not to mention there being a convenient upload system.
Not sure how convenient it is for games to grab images from that part of Steam, though.
