What makes a room? - Noob question

Can someone point me to where in the game or here in the forums it describes the requirements for a room? The medical bed being outside the medbay error message is starting to frustrate me. I put walls and doors and only medical equipment in the room, but there is obviously something I’m missing... and obviously there are other types of rooms so I’d like to read up on their requirements as well.

I’ve searched the game’s help and the forums but can’t seem to find this information. What am I missing?

In general: No room components from other rooms (IE: med bay and a cot)

Walls and Doors to seal the area in some fashion.  Bare rock works as a wall, but you can't just have a 300 square room.

You can leave the doors open in a room, as long as the door is there.

  • Latrine: Lavatory/Outhouse and Washbasin/Sink
  • Baracks: Cot(s)
  • Mess Hall: Mess Table
  • Med Bay: Breaks a few of the rules.  Bathroom, Mess Table, and Med Bay/Pharma Center are required. 
  • Power Plant: Power Control Center
  • Greenhouse: Farm Station
  • Stable: Grooming Station
  • Recreation Room: A massage table and a piece of artwork.

 

The med bay is a bit strange, since it requires a toilet and a mess table on top of the med-bed.

The idea is that the dupe never needs to leave the med-bay until he is cured. Unfortunately they still leave to fetch food. So it is not working out all the way yet.

That is why you also put a high priority fridge with room for like 1-2 things when there is a dupe needing medical attention.  With some bad slimelung they can end up in a constant cycle of trying to get food and dropping it over and over if they have to leave to get it.

Well, then there should be a fridge in the med-bay requirements, shouldnt it?

I guess it doesn't have to be right inside the room if you don't have space for it.  The fridge can be right outside.  But you want some close by food source anyway.

The mess table in the med-bay is important though.  No dupe will claim it as their own.

The obvious problem with that is that fridges are on a different tech tree than med-beds. So players might get stuck with sick dupes, not being able to build a med-bay without extensive research.

I think it would be better if caring dupes would be able to deliver food to a med-bay.
