Which boss should I Fight First ( Klaus Or Dragon Fly ) And Couple More Questions

Recommended Posts

Day 24.( WINTER )

so many close death experience( turning into a beaver in middle of a fight while straving of wood ). Food is stabilized and fairly good base. I've gather enough resources to fight one of the boss  but i never had any experience fighting any of these boss. Ive got insanely lucky with my world base, this time not forgetting to add Cave . Both Dragon fly and Klaus is right next to my base I was wondering which boss would benefit me the most fighting and what day in winter should I fight it?

Extra Questions

I've pratice alot starting early game circling the map. I finish on day 8 but chester nor warlus camp is no where to be found. Ive look on the map for the most obvious place where they might be but walrus is no where to be seen nor Chester on the bee and swamp place that ive check. I really need the walking cane that will make traveling faster and Chester for gathering with me. Map below .

If you kill Dragonfly, you can build a scaled furnace, which is doubtlessly useful in winter (not necessary ofc, but a nice to have) ;) Klaus can give you nice loot, especially if you don't want to bother killing Bee Queen, Toadstool and co., but it's random and not that important in my opinion. So in your case I would kill Dragonfly first. (Tho I enjoy the Klaus fight more)

From my experience, I would say that the walrus is most likely at one of the places I marked:

I hope you'll find it!

I have no idea about Chester however. I don't know about any info on where it could spawn.

You do realise you can add Caves post-worldgen, right? It requires some fiddling around the save files, sure...

Re: "which boss" - Klaus is very much a lottery. When you've just started the world, any rare blueprint will be nice, but isn't guaranteed. Same with Krampus sack. The guaranteed/high-chance drops (charcoal, gold, and life amulet) from his stash are "meh" IMO, even for starting players. The value/usefulness of the remaining chance loot (shroom skin, deerclops eyeball, mandrake etc.) is highly variable.

If you have to choose one, I think Klaus would be better choice because klaus is time limited boss.

That is a good point. So if you want to kill Klaus in the first year and you're not sure you could do both bosses before the end of the winter, you should prioritise Klaus. On the other hand, ...

That's my problem with Klaus. Its usual drop is a down feather, a spider hat and a desert stone. Especially if you need an extra eyeball, a shroom skin or a blueprint. However, I tend to get mandrakes on public servers that reset during the first year...

Heh. For me, the valuable resource from the stash is the bundling wrap/wax paper itself (also something for the OP to consider). If Klaus didn't drop the flashing ornaments during Winter's Feast, I wouldn't bother with him during the event :)

Also, Re: map - I also recommend checking out this area for walrus camp:

Re: Chester - I think he spawns near the end of a brick road.

Chester mostly spawn in grass areas and I added a circle in the hay field to check for Mactusk. There might be 2 or 3 Mactusks in this kind of arrangement.

And imo, bundling wrap > scaled furnace

Yes, but the chance you get it is pretty small. You have a 50% chance of getting a blueprint and 1/6 chance that the blueprint will be bundling wrap. So it's 0.5*16.7 ~ 8.3%.

Right I was confusing the wax papers dropped with real usable bundle wraps. You need that blueprint first...

The Klaus loot is now very much less interesting

however, there is also a 1/10 of getting a big sacc; early sacc is good sacc. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

and a 1/2 chance of a boss blueprint isn't a bad deal, and since he only comes around once a year it's 100% worth it.
