Power stations and metal volcanoes

Since metal is now renewable, is it worth it to use microchips on generators now?

Need to take care of wire use with it cause a coal gen 600 W it's ok because it's become a 900 W gen but a natural gas gen of 800 W become a 1200 W and overcharge the normal wire

most players use heavy watt wires when going beyond manual and coal gens

I choose my wire in function of the need and the gen i use on it.

I never ever do one single electrical circuit, cause i got in trouble at the beggining of this game, i have one single circuit for all y base and it will finish in a big black out. So now i made separate circuit and choose the wire i need for it to save my metal stock

Usually I start out with various small circuits for the various things that need powering with manual generators. Eventually once the big NG powerplant goes online, where I produce 3KW of power for my base, I set up a large heavy watt wire from the power system through a 'service tunnel' that is not accessible by dupes once built around my base, and then set up power transformers at various locations and hook up all the local circuits to it.
I keep a good bunch of batteries on the heavy circuit, but every smaller circuit also has it's own battery to Ensure that the power supply to all systems is stable.

My method the past few builds has been to design a power trunk with heavi-watt wire that has my various generators.  Then, when I need a circuit, I hook up a transformer to the trunk and run regular wire to whatever needs power (or conductive wire if I'm running a refinery or aquatuner).  I always build generators in tandem with a smart battery, letting me control when the generator runs.  For example (below) my hydrogen generator is set to come on when the smart battery drops to 90%.  The first coal generator kicks in when the battery is down to 25%, and the second kicks in when the battery is empty.  90% of the time, the only generator running is the hydrogen generator.  However, if several high-power devices kick in at once, then the other two generators keep things going.  With the benefits of a power control station, my power output is 3kw and its completely sustainable.

Need one

You can easily have it set up by cycle 20 or 25.  The fastest I set one up was cycle 12 with two good researchers and prioritizing the research trees for the rock granulator, smart battery, and internal combustion.

Just don't forget you need the dupe being Electrical Engineer to operate it

STUFF

Can I get the save file to that? I want to look at what you're doing with your gas valves and where they lead, need inspiration not to build slapped together dumpster dived coat hanger patch work systems in a highly organized campaign of disarray netSd69.gif

I still cannot contemplate the concept of automation gates I'm living in a manual dupe hell scape with ductwork and wiring and overly large cabbage fields as far as the eye can see netSd69.gif

thanks

Rock granulator is a waste of metal, just need it to made the first important thing before the reffinery

The gas pipes and valves aren't anything special. Up top, its a pipe leading from my hydrogen store to the hydrogen generator. I set the valve to 110 so that the generator is always full when its running, but will allow me to take some gas from the pipe further down the line without starving my generator.

The gas pipes at the bottom are automated with an atmo sensor to keep CO2 levels down.  There are no automation gates.

I'd throw in the save file, but this run was also an experiment in modding the world gen files.  Among other things, the world size is something like 512x768 or whatever.  I'll be building a new "normal" seed later today if you still need a save file.

yes, +50% power for ref metal, is only great if your metal is renewable, else its useful but use sparingly

Its very useful early in the game while you're still looking for good sources of power.

I'd like a save file to look at everything though, I need ideas on how to not layout EVERYTHING as a garbage scape. Thanks

Mine is a mess as well, and like I said, its not on a default map, but.. fine. Here you go:
