No one is being ignorant.

I use my tv playing this game and sitting on couch with key/mouse isnt fun playing.

Ok, then don't play the game that way if it isn't fun. But keyboard/mouse is your only option. I know I certainly wouldn't play a game if I found it to not be fun in the manner that I am choosing to play it.But, I otherwise have already answered your question to the best that anyone in this community is capable of answering besides Klei employees.

I think it's really not necessary for the developers to spend their time and resources on gamepad support. There are a multitude of tools out there that allow for custom gamepad setups for any game. I am currently using an app called DS3Tool with a cheap generic Gigaware USB gamepad that I picked up at Radio Shack for $15 (basically a PS2 controller). I've got WASD mapped to the D-Pad, mouse axis mapped to the analog sticks, 10 buttons for the hotbar, one for left click, and one for rotating the view angle. It works out pretty nicely. In my opinion, I'd rather the devs put their resources towards content than features that we could implement on our own.

If you simply prefer playing in front of the tele, get yourself a wireless mouse, or a long extension cable. Also, get yourself some kind of lap tray to flop a mouse pad down on. Your keyboard is now useless. You'll want to map your rotation controls to the very side right and left mouse buttons, and your spacebar command to the scroll wheel click. This can be done relatively easily with a simple script in a free downloadable program such as "autohotkey". You now have complete mouse control, and can sit back in comfort!

No matter the tools available out there, nothing beats true controller support especially being that using an analog pad can never properly be done through 3rd party tools since character walking direction is limited by a directional pad type approach. I'm sure that sounds confusing what I just said, so if it was then let me explain it like this...If you map an analog pad to the character walking direction and you try to get the character to walk in a 1 o'clock direction, the character will not be able to. The closest thing the character will be able to do is walk in a North direction or a North-East direction, but never anywhere in between.I personally do feel that gamepad support would be great, but since it is not supported we can not use it.

The whole point of analog gamepads is that they don't contain a simple north east south west connection, but rather rely on potentiometers to provide every miniscule direction inbetween. You might just be using a crappy mapping program, or didn't bother to research how to use it.

You may have misunderstood what I meant, but I meant almost exactly as you said. The only difference is that I am not using a gamepad nor any 3rd party software, but even if I was, since DS only takes input from WASD it is impossible to make the character walk in directions that are not North, South, North-East.... etc. The game would need some code to be able to add that in.

Will this game get gamepad support in the future? And yes I know key/mouse is probably more suitable for this game I just like to use a gamepad for my games.

I actually hook my laptop up to my 32 inch, sit on my bed, and use my mouse on a table. My only problem is that I can't rotate the screen to pick stuff up, so I oftentimes end up chopping down a tree just to get to something. I also don't build anything directly behind my fire pit, because you can't click it when the fire is lit. It's weird, I know, but one of the major reasons I play this game over others is that I get to be suuuper lazy about the controls. Also I can save it whenever. I have about 30 hours into it.

The game also takes input from you clicking the mouse. You could control the mouse cursor with your gamepad, or better yet, use a script that moves the mouse in small increments and clicks at the same time. Bound the mouse to center screen and you've now got full analog support!

see my above post, I covered the rotational clicking.

Ehh, it's a work around, but far from ideal.

i'm using xpadder with my Xbox controller i think you can get a free (and legit) from Cnet.comleft stick is wasd right stick is the mousebumpers are the mouse buttons and the triggers are Ctrl and space and the D-pad or other front buttons as the arrow keys (rotate/zoom)works like a charm but i rarely use the left mouse to pick things up

Better yet, I've got an Xbox Kinect hooked up via USB, running FAAST middleware. Still working out the specifics but basically, my right hand controls the mouse, my left hand controls a few keys, head tilting and leaning can cover a few more, body rotation, jumping, etc... I can starve to death without even getting near my computer.Maybe I shouldn't even mention voice recognition... hehe. "Wilson, you could use a shave."
