Why are dupes carrying tiny amounts of slime?

I have an algae shortage so I am trying to convert slime to algae in the distillers as fast as possible. Still on the OC Update - I had my slime distillers set to Priority 6 (most other tasks are priority 5). Dupes would dutifully come to this slime cave and ferry slime to the distillers whenever they needed refilling.

The problem was that a lot of the dupes would just hoover up one or two pieces of slime - for example Puft poo weighing a fraction of a Kg, and then go to the distillers. They were carrying far less than they normally could. Instead of going around the area and hoovering up as much slime as they could carry (it's all very close together), they just would take one or two bits at a time making a lot of trips back and forth with tiny quantities of slime - even when bigger chunks were available.

In other places in the game I've seen dupes hoover up something, and then search around nearby for the same material and pick up those too, to maximise their carried load. Why aren't my dupes doing that here? And how can I optimise their deliveries to the distillers? There is a mixture of heavy mined slime, and light Puft poo slime lying around in the same area. Whenever a slime delivery is needed, it takes ages for a distiller to refill - and lots of dupe time - because only the mined slime deposits are making an impact. I want the puft poo to be used as well but right now it's very inefficient with how they are choosing what slime to pick up. Cheers.

`Thanks Chemie. That's sad.

Saturnus yes the storage compactor next to the distillers is set to slime only, on a 5 priority. They have never stored in it yet, apart from one time where I set it to 6 and the distillers were full already.

They have been doing this for a very long time.  Only solution is to lock the doors and automate opening to limit dup access

This. You could always use a sweeper arm - those things love to be busy fools :D

See. It works as intended when you set the correct priorities (and disable job priorities) ;)

I plan to make a puft farm that can support an algae distiller with the new ranch update.  I'll post my design when it's finished

Ya, good luck with that.  You'll need around 400 pufts to support 1 distilled.  Assuming my math is right, but it might not be.

I mean 360kg of slime a day is pretty hefty... That's enough to support 90 mushrooms instead.

I don't like the algae distillers at all for that reason; you need to make food out of something and typically that something is clean cool water which is a lot harder to come by.

it's 360g per day not 360kg

For an algae distiller on 100% uptime? 600g/s * 600s = 360,000g - 360kg. Or do you mean a puft outputs 360g per day?

I meant pufts, my bad

Sweepers wait until a large enough particle accumulates so dups will still try to beat them.

how large? I seen sweepers pick up slime at 200g or less

Mine don't... mine will pick up an individual sleetwheat seed if it has a home...

Seeds might be different.  I know a sweeper was waiting for large enough fertilizer packets while dups were framing smaller ones away when I had demand for fertilizer right when machines first turned on.  Had to lick dups out to allow sweep to start.

I do know sweepers will ignore items if a dupe is curently assigned to pick it up.  I don't think the mass of the item is relevent
