Hatch Farm

Recommended Posts

For me the only thing they eat is polluted dirt, I usually end up with 100+ Tonnes and then it takes forever for my Coal generator to eat it all, or generators, if i feel I need two. before then I usually have hydrogen powering my base.

I think if I were to be feeding my hatches food though I would just feed them igneous rock anyway, once the lava cools it becomes more so you literally have all of that to account for as well.

My hatches are never allowed to eat metals,Granite, Dirt, Abyssalite or Algae. everything else is fair play haha

Usually I try to get a hatch or two in every latrine room as long as I don't have steady water supply and proper toilets and proper wash sinks. With a storage that only takes p-dirt and rot. Then I build a pit in the floor above(2 blocks deep 2 wide) with a mech door as floor and a bottle emptier only accepting p-water.

Dupes will bring the p-water from your basins pour it in the pit. From time to time uncheck the bottle emptier, uncheck the rot storage, issue a mop task for the pit then open the door and the bottled p-water will drop down to be eaten. Then repeat.

The advantage is you won't accumulate p-water with food poison or infect your other p-water you want to filter with food poison

I prefer only feeding hatches renewable supplies, but I don't want to use fertilizer, because doing that as a mater of policy would reduce the maximum size of my colony.  My solution is to feed them solid CO2!  There is no use for it other than running a carbon skimmer, you keep producing more of it.  You can keep the hatches in a vacuum to stop them from freezing and run liquid CO2 along a cold wall.  You can then pull it out with a conveyor.

I didn't knew that. Very nice!

But skimmers take hot geyser water produce "clean" p-water at 40°C which u can either use to produce nat gas and fertilizer and even delete heat by pipe cooling before sending it to fertilizer makers or watersieve it for 40°C clean water then aquatune it just once for nice berry irritation

What about slicksters? Free body temperature crude for CO2.

i got a natgas in a perfect location for a huge natgas powerplant, i guess i'll transfer my hatches their, and ill leave 2 in my latrine room

youll get slicksters when you get plastic for catching them so itll take some time, also CO2 is produced by dupes so you wont run out of them

I never build the traps. I just build "hatch ladders" and the slicksters climb them fine. The hardest ones for me are the pufts. I even managed to capture some shinebugs for heat free light for my farms, but I'll be damned if I've caught a puft yet.

best to use the arial creature lure for pufts, only real way to effectively move them were you want

Yeah, that's true.  But I make fertilizer out of hot polluted water, as I use the runoff from the natural gas generators to liquid-cool things.  I also don't really like the carbon skimmer cooling, but that's just a personal thing.

If you can boil the crude oil to natural gas, then it's a positive feedback loop where you end up with more CO2 than you started with.  That excess is what I use.

If you don't want to do that and you end up with a chlorine geyser, you can also try feeding them chlorine, but that is harder

whats the lure for mrs. puft?

200 tons of fert and 1200 tons of coal.

thats 1million kilograms right?

@Lutzkhie yes but it’s so high because I haven’t even used coal power yet and at one point I had like 40 synthesis machines but I had to down scale because the pressure was getting ridiculous.i opted to just compress my polluted water instead.

I usually make a second heavy watt circuit maxed out on coal then experiment with cryogenics and molten metals until I burn up all the coal plus it give quite a large quantity of oil for later.
