Hound attack nice timing

Recommended Posts

I'm not complaining about the # of hounds. 10 hounds or 10k hounds or 10k rajangs make no difference to me. It's the timing. The fact that it happens randomly sucks.

I was soloing dragonfly. Got him down to 10k something after ~0.75 days. Then god darn hound attack. Apparently, I handled 10 hounds + 1 dragonfly with ease thanks to that -25% damage modifier and that dragonfly totally didn't regenerate full HP. I rolled back and had to wait literally 1 day for the "scheduled" hound attack. What a massive waste of time.

See this is very frustrating. Hound attacks are very easy to deal with but incredibly annoying when I'm engaging something else. Why can't we have a better mechanics like caching the hound attack during certain boss fights and trigger it afterward? Come on Use your creativity. Random number generator is lame. You are better than this.

If the hound attacks were set to a schedule they'd be even more easy than they are now, and it'd ruin a good bit of the risk involved doing anything right before one.

People typically wait til after a hound attack to fight a giant like DF, who is wholly discretionary.

Maybe better timing your giants take-down? Past day 100, first 3 days after a Hound attack should be totally safe to kill Dragon.

I didn't say it should be scheduled. I said no hound attacks during certain boss fights. If there was one, cache it then fire it afterward. Heck, fire two if necessary. The problem is I cannot leave the dragonfly area or it regens to full. Another solution is maybe to not reset some bosses. Then one can deal with hounds first then come back. Plus I don't like having to "wait" for a hound/worm attack to do anything. I don't know why this is a good idea in the first place.

In fact, deerclops and bearger make hound attack a joke w/ their AoEs. So hound attack during them actually makes the game easier.

Again, it just seems like a really unnecessary hound nerf which can be simply solved by not attacking a giant right before a hound attack. If this means you have to wait a couple days, then do exactly that.

...am I the only one who would've tried to get the Dragonfly and Hounds to fight _each other_?  ;)  Hounds = gone, Dragonfly HP still = mostly what it was (since her HP is kinda insane).  Tada!...unless of course the situation was such that that wouldn't have worked; I dunno, I wasn't there obviously.

LOTS of Don't Starve involves clever ways to make lemonade from lemons--it's one of the most fun things in the game to do!  Maybe not as badass, but it might've saved you needing to roll back at least...

Ah! this happened to me couple days ago but it was right at the end of the fight. Hound were on their way while I was fighting in my stone pen. The DF left for spitting larvea. Her HP was below 1000 (health info). The hounds were all around us munching the walls. That was so stressful, I managed to kill DF just when the hounds broke into the pen. :o

Clutch!

She doesn't have AoE when she's not enraged, so you'd have to wait for them to attack her. The odds that enough of them to slow her down would attack her at once are not nearly as good as those that she'd whack you at a bad time and the hounds would take advantage of the hitstun to gobble you up.

Well, I was thinking they'd all distract her for a second until BAM no more hounds, then you could go back to concentrating on just the Dragonfly.  But like I said, I thought there might be something wrong with my idea to begin with but I wasn't sure what.  : P

...then again, there IS that time I successfully got the Dragonfly and the Deerclops to fight each other without even meaning to, so I guess I must've been thinking about that.  I was out picking cactus in the winter--as you do--an especially LONG, randomised winter (40 days)--and the Deerclops chose to show up a _second_ time right then.  I heard the creepy HHHHHUUUUUHHHHH breathing _right_ when I came upon a glowy lava pool out of the corner of my eye.

I never actually saw what happened, but the Deerclops didn't follow me back to base.  XD

That's cause in both situations you're already dead.

Not true. I can just go into the cave and give me 100m hounds crash the Google server if you wish. 10k lv140 rajang will kill themselves w/ mega dash juice + guard+2 + lance.

Yeah I got Goose to fight dragonfly once. Obviously Goose won.

The fact that hounds can attack at the worst possible moment unless you engage in foresight and planning is pretty much the whole point of hounds. They are supposed to be inconvenient.

True I'm fine with that. Then why reset dragonfly's HP.. He not nearly on the same level as the ancient fuelweaver, whose reset is reasonable.
