I think something is coming for DST

Recommended Posts

Which is precisely what I am thinking is coming up...that, and anybody who didn't get the --swoon-- or arrow'd heart last year will have another chance to get them on Valentine's Day.  I hope they do cute art "cards" for Valentine's again, those are fun.  (Or repost some of the old ones, that'd be cool too.)  Although I should mention here that I did my cheesy "You set my heart on fire!" picture with Willow

BEFORE the actual Klei-made pictures came out later in the day.  : P  (Oddly appropriately...since this is oldschool Willow, she kept SETTING THE FLOWERS ON FIRE before I could finish setting up the picture.  It was originally going to have the Stagehand's roses, until they turned into a circle of ashes.)

And of course I'm really curious to see if they redo Year of the Gobbler, or update it to Year of the Hound.  I'm hoping the latter, but also leery about how the hell they'll make that fun and festive rather than just deadly.  Heh.

As for the barking spiders...you missed your chance on that one, Bunions, since as I understand it from reading about the Thirst mod, it DID once have spiders!  XD  I keep hoping the stupid frogs will take out the snakes for me, but they almost never attack something when you WANT them to...

Interesting you mention that about the snakes and ponds, they (snakes) were initially a way to deal with the Cactus being such a good water source (20 Thirst relief). We have snakes that come from the cactus' when you pick em now, adding them to ponds as an occasional spawn is just for funnies and to make ppl less pond dependent.

When I did the snake reskin color wise, my original plan was to make the snakes of 2 variants, one with a light aqua band, and a second snake with 2 aqua stripes.

Just for extra amusement, the snake with the 2 aqua stripes was going to be poisonous and it would be hard to tell the snake differences without observing the stripes much like real snakes in the wild. That was considered "too mush extra fun" for now however. It's something that may (hopefully) still one day get implemented.

Chinese new year is on feburary 16th, so we can hope for event on the next week

The last Chinese New Year event started 9 days before the Chinese New Year. This year 9 days before would be Wednesday February 7 although Klei would probably like to launch it a Thursday so they have some Rhymes with Play content to showcase.

If the team is pressed for time it could always be delayed and/or have content cut (like Winter's Feast 2017.) Hopefully this is not the case.

Edit: I wonder if Klei withheld the Rose Firepit/Torch so it could be used as a promo for logging in during this years Chinese New Year event. I can't confirm as I cannot access DST on Tencent's platform but I believe those skins were Loyal rarity for preordering the game on Tencent's platform.

They are. Hopefully we see them on Steam sooner or later.

Oh, nononononono.  Not poison.  (shivers, huddles in a ball, has PTSD flashbacks)  Not...poison... That's seriously my least favourite thing from Shipwrecked, and I always tend to get poisoned so EARLY, as in, way before I've had the chance to even _find_ all the ingredients for an antidote.  If the snakes were poisonous, I probably would never have downloaded the Thirst mod, let alone be using it.  I was looking for another thing to keep track of at a regular pace to make the game harder _that_ way, not OMGHURRYHURRYHURRY!!, so poison would turn the entire _feel_ of the mod into something other than what I was looking for.  But I hope you were at least planning to make the antidote slightly less obnoxious to make.  : P

Also funny about the cactus; I didn't even NOTICE they were a good thirst quencher.  I always pick them for sanity!  XD  (Although I did notice how snake-dogs kept coming out of them whenever I picked one...)  Oddly enough, I often end up picking cactus in the middle of winter.  Because the darkness makes you crazier, and there's usually some of them unpicked still.  Now I'm kind of morbidly curious to know how the Thirst mod would go along with the Desert Enhancement one, specifically the new world setting you can make where EVERYTHING'S a desert with just small oases here and there...

Anyway I'm down with Rose fire stuff if we get it, or if not, I'm still down for the Year of the Hound (or Varg, as many have been calling it).  I've also got that adorable Chinese-style Spring Festival mod I can always bust out if I just want things to _look_ right during the Lunar New Year.  I'm not expecting any BIG dramatic event, but _something_.  Remember--even if they do nothing new this year, there's still a LOT of Chinese New Year stuff that _isn't_ animal-themed in the game, that they could just bring straight back no problems.  So those of you who missed stuff like the lanterns and the outfits and the lucky fan, rejoice!  You should be able to use them yourself soon. :)

No fear it ain't happening anytime soon (poison). I asked about the bark, the response was right now there are other projects and making snake sound files for now is a lower priority. Today we talked about rivers, a very very distant possibility. There would be some significant challenges to overcome to make that one happen imo, but its something we're toying with.

As far as future events go Klei is so great about that kinda stuff. I have been so busy with IRL I totally missed the forge entirely but I have tremendous faith that more fun times are still ahead!

We don't have any announced plans for DST PE - it would have to be a separate app just like PC, they are different games.

As noted in the OP, console updates are coming as soon as they can but I can't give you a specific date because it's really going to depend on cert at this point. But we don't expect it to be too far off from the next PC/Mac release; and that's not to far off from now.

This was posted in the console subforum 12 h ago regarding updates for the console versions. A good omen, surely.

So Desblat hates  the idea of impossible apparently and since my time is limited, he has been doing both art and coding side on this part of the project. Here is an early tease on some of the wip / concept stuff. All credit to him thus far I am just adding suggestions / feedback on art direction, possibilities etc.  at this phase of the project.

They put SW for DST and that's an insta buy for me and all my friends.

They've said they have no plans for this so far.

A different company helped to code ShipWrecked and balancing would be even harder for a lot of reasons. (If everyone takes all the flint from the island the Florid Postern was on or cut down all the trees on that island you'd basically have to play as Walani or Woodlegs or you'd be stuck for example.)

I just found this topic about a refund of the in-game purchases: http://steamcommunity.com/app/322330/discussions/0/1699416432417993440/

JoeW said that these can be refunded as DLCs... does this mean that the DLCs showing up in the steam DB are actually the new skin sets? Did I understood right?

Edit: I just checked, DST has 2 new DLCs on steam, the Beating Heart Chest and the All Verdant Spring Chest (http://store.steampowered.com/app/322330/Dont_Starve_Together/), so these are really the new DLCs.

If you buy the skins in the in game Klei store you get the skins. You do not get the DLC

If you buy the DLC from the Steam store you get the skins and the DLC.

Taxes may be different for these depending on your region (since one is a DLC and the other virtual goods) but aside from that they are basically identical. If you buy it from Steam (and not the in game shop) its added as a DLC so its treated like a DLC by Steam. (You can review it, showcase it in games/content owned, etc.) If you buy it from the in game Klei store its not treated as DLC. (So you cannot review it, showcase it in games/content owned, etc)

For purposes of owning/obtaining the skins they are identical (aside from potential taxes) in every way. I would just go with whatever is cheaper for you. If you really want to review it on Steam/showcase it on your Steam profile buy the DLC.

Also before any collector tries to bank the chests by buying the DLC (so they can keep the chests to show off wealth) it doesn't work. The game forces you to open the boxes before you can do anything else.

I suspected that as well. It is still a bit confusing, or...... inconsistent. Unless the DLC checkbox gets filled in if a person obtains all the items for said DLC in question.

I suspect they did this for gifting as it was probably the easiest way to implement. I have no idea how the gifting system works but gifting others the DLC makes sense I guess.

The system is still rather confusing though but at least it opens up potential tax exemptions for players to take advantage of.

If you have an example of a region like this, I'd love to look into it in more detail. It might be out of our control, but I'd like to investigate either way.

I don't have a specific example regarding the DLC and virtual goods for this case as the country, state and city I live in only has sales tax in very specific situations.

As an example if I add $5 to my Steam wallet and then make a purchase I do not pay tax.

If I match the needed funds ($5) via Credit card, Paypal or bank account I have to pay sales tax on said purchase. (Which would ultimately cost me $5.50 at 10%.)

I think Valve is allowed to do this as "Steam wallet funds have no real world value outside of Steam" so purchasing funds (which have "no value") isn't taxed whereas matching funds (which has actual monetary value) is subject to sales tax. I have noticed Sony do this as well although this was a couple of years ago. I am not a legal expert so further research should be done by someone who is. I know you didn't ask for this but.....I don't really understand the system and feel this is might be slightly useful to you/Klei.

I can't help you or provide a specific region regarding the DLC/virtual goods and taxes. I just brought it up because they technically are different (albeit minor) and may be seen differently in the eyes of the law for tax purposes. For users in different regions maybe buying the DLC will save them money? Maybe it will be more expensive? For me personally they are identical (in very specific situations at least) but maybe that information might help someone else (where it could be different.)

Edit: I don't think Klei is at any risk of legal issues. If anything the store manager (Valve Software) would be the one's in hot water for not charging sales tax if they were supposed to.

Edit2: Actually if anyone has anything relevant to this discussion it might be better to discuss it privately with Klei and not publicly on any forums. Here is some contact information for if you do. https://www.klei.com/contact

If any moderator/admin has a better contact method feel free to edit the link to a better method of communication.
