Questions about antlion and the new update

Recommended Posts

Because I hate suprises I have a few questions about the antlion and the new update.
I've read somewhere that you don't need ice flingomatics in the desert during summer or to be more precisely at the oasis. Is this true? Is the antlion in the same desert as the oasis? Is the antlion stationary, can I find it in the same spot everytime or does it move after enraged or until the next summer? If I don't appease it while I'm in the cave, will the cave ins (caused by antlion) only target ME or will rocks fall just like the normal cave ins a screen wide? I don't want my structures destroyed and want to know how far I have to leave my base or other structures.

Yes.

Yes, it's stationary. As far as I'm aware, it won't move if it was killed or when the next summer comes. Although I'd like to note I was on a world made before the Antlion so there's still that possibility it can move.

Just like sinkholes, cave ins will only target you. You should get a warning before this happens so you'll have plenty of time to react and move away from anything important.

The desert with the oasis has a sandstorm during summer. This will slow you down quite a bit and make it hard to see things but it prevents smoldering although you can still overheat. You can get blueprints for goggles that let you walk normally in the sandstorm by fishing in the oasis.

You won't get smouldering in the oasis desert. You will still get summer hound waves and fire staffs will still work, so depending on what kind of killer noobs come around you could still need to put out fires there. If you're sure everyone has the sense to leave base during hound waves and not to accidentally set stuff on fire, you will be fine without them.

In the whole desert? Wow.

I play alone so leaving is not an issue. Thanks to everyone : )

Nobody's actually answering the question here - Does smoldering happen at the Oasis? No, not in the Desert cus of the Sandstorm. What about the Oasis? Anybody?

Probably also no. As for me I won't build anything directly around the oasis since I want to collect succulents.

BTW: I just looked where my oasis is and it was exactly in the spot I had hoped for. Can start building my summer base now. : )

Oasis isn't affected by Sandstorm though, so it probably will smoulder, right...?

No, it doesn't smother. That's the only reason you'd want to build a base there.

Leaving is an issue. That's a mistake I made. Understand that when we say the sandstorms slows you, we mean it REALLY slows you down. You walk at a snails pace. You can't dodge. I haven't figured how to survive hounds yet, because there's no way of getting out in time.

The question is though, can you expand the Oasis with grass turfs?

Good point. I plan to fish as soon as possible and as much as possible. Is the fishing loot limited or something?

I doubt that you can expand the oasis

You can change turf around the oasis as with any other area.

It would be nice if the oasis wasn't dry every season but summer. First, it is very pretty and being able to build a base around a water element was one of the best things about SW and would be nice to have in DST. Perhaps the devs are worried that if it becomes a year-round food and trinket source then it will be OP as a base location, but they could make it only yield trinkets in summer and maybe alternate fish with rocks or twigs or the other stuff you sometimes get when fishing for flotsam in ROG. Its not like there's tons of resources in the oasis desert as is, just volt goats and cacti. Not even tumbleweeds.

Aside from the unique loot, it works pretty much the same way as a normal pond. Each time you fish up something it'll take longer to fish up something again.

I have everything in my oasis desert. I just checked. Even tumbleweeds are spawning everywhere. It is also my only desert and I guess it's because I didn't generate a new world after the update.

It spawned in that desert because for some reason your worldgen decided to cut out the 2nd one. Even pre-Against the Grain, worlds had 2 deserts. One with the dragonfly and one with an oasis (although it was just a few normal ponds, catcoons and trees). Not sure why, but occasionally the worldgen just decides to forget a biome. My previous world somehow cut out the rocky biome. Thankfully the meteor biome ended up being a decent size.

I am ridiculously happy that I no longer have to flee to the caves lest my perpetually WIP base be burnt to a crisp, and this is coming from a guy who loves spelunking more than anything right now.

I expect it to be either boring or extremely dangerous being in the desert. I walled my base in with stone because one burning tumbleweed came to close while I was building. *sigh

???

Dangerous?

I don't think desert summer bases are all that dangerous, well, certainly not more so than other kinds of summer bases (not including the highly unappreciated cave summer bases), the reason they've been around for so long is due to a lack of anything burnable and no sudden meteor showers, and what better a way to spend a summer than collecting cactus flowers and sifting through tumbleweeds for a good two hours...

Boring, but the furthest thing from dangerous in a season that just wants you to suffer and die.

dangerous as long as one doesn't have those goggles and running away / kiting a hound attack could go really bad because of the sandstorm

Well, if you have a desert base then you really should have goggles. That scenario really shouldn't happen unless you're still in the process of getting the goggle blueprints (one of the reasons why I believe the oasis should start to fill up in spring. You can prepare for other types of weather but for the sandstorm you actually have to be in the middle of it).
