Extra effect on yellow amulet please?

Recommended Posts

With the new boss out fighting him solo requires either gunpowder, weather pain(can kinda try using telelocator stave instead in case minions get damaged by falling rocks, but thats even more random) or hivehat+purpleamulet. Managing minions properly, keeping him in eating animation is not really possible because of weird attack-targeting via keyboard(old target has higher priority than any other one(ctrl+attack_key to seek a new one every time, plox?)). All of those items are being mid-game(for solo player) tier(except for hivehat), while hivehat can be obtained somewhat early from Klaus, but the chances of getting it on first kill are small. So I was thinking if there are any chances that we can get some anti-mind control or at least anti-nightmare effect(like prohibiting nightmare spawns for player wearing yellow amulet) on yellow amulet? It isn't used alot as of now anyway. It comes handy for overworld exploration, but its far less profitable to rush caves first and then return, which makes it kinda bad. Using it to meet newcomers is an option, but currently there are better ones. To balance such effect - fuel consumption might be doubled/tripled.

Yellow amulets are fine as-is. The speed boost and light radius make cave basing / exploration a treat. Making it stop nightmares from spawning would be too overpowered since a Wolfgang could use it and eat lichen 24/7 without any downsides.

Not like Wolfgang has any problems with eating lichen 24/7 already. But perhaps you are right about this one. Im just being a bit salty about this boss being unrushable solo, looking for possible ways of fixing that.

Also, I don't consider yellow amulet to be even quite good.

Not like caves are hard to live at or explore.

Whats the problem with Sanity During Night and Protection from Charlie?

I bet those who can easily get those amulets don't find this problems problematic at all.

I've kind of found myself needing Krampus sack way too much, probably because of jelly beans, pan flute and me being a Stalker Wielder (keeping Shadow Thurible, Fossil Fragments and Shadow Atrium inside a bundling wrap) and because of me being the one that mines statues and gets a lot of other crap from the ruins for crafting Thulecite Crowns and other ancient magic stuff, which I'll then need to bundle up to take to the surface for everyone to use (that statue respawning has made Crown quite heftily more reliable and sharable, although it kind of requires you to kill weaver as soon as possible again, which feels a little grindy).

I use magilluminessence as often as I can, although it's sad that I'm unusable to use it all the time because of all the management mentioned above. Oh well, that's the life of a ruins raider, I guess. Wish I could use it all the time like I used to...

A some-what related question: can earthquake rocks destroy krampus sacks? I thought perhaps I could leave the sack at a cave base so I can then use it when going to ruins only or something, since I don't really need it as much on the surface and could just take chester. With hutch, it'll be a problem in that monkeys may catch up to him and either kill him if it's nightmare phase or steal stuff from him if it's not, since he's quite slow, where as I as a charged WX run like sanik.

Although Magi is fine as is, I think @Diaboliko's suggestion isn't too bad; making the magilluminessence counter the mind control... Then again, it might be a little OP as well.

I am not entirely sure, but I think those destroy only the things that earthquake drops(to reduce amount of garbage lying around), as well as twigs and grass.

Yeaaah, that totally would be OP with all those effects. But either players can use an extra slot for amulets with little nerfs or ancient amulets can use a rework.

Well, the thing is, it would make the nightmare amulet only have one decent use, which would be getting past the insanity obelisks easily if your suggestion was implemented for the magilluminessence, as having that thing on while being insane, would mean that there is no point in using the nightmare amulet for the fight as well as it being way too easy to dodge the mind control this way; you can kill the shadow hands that keep his shield up without having to worry about being mind-controlled.

With the nightmare amulet, you have to make sure your sanity is up while you have it off, whilst at the same time keeping the amulet on only when you need to (killing the hands) and taking it off when the Fuelweaver is trying to mind-control you, otherwise you have to either use sanity foods to go sane and insane all the time or stay insane so that you can kill his hands (or some players staying sane, others insane for splitting jobs during the fight in a sense).

Yes, you would still get attacked by shadows if you're insane and wearing magilluminessence, however that isn't the point. Point is, nightmare amulet would become an inferior item to use in the fight against the fuelweaver.

Although may be the shadow spawning could be compensated to make it a bit more even, I don't really know.

I'll have you know I use the Magiluminescense literally all the time starting from the moment a yellow gem and 2 Thulecites are in my hands.

I question your skills at this point. Its far more effective to use backpack. One can't be camping everywhere from the start. And nomads lifestyle requires all available space too.

First off, the backpack's efficiency is a personal preference.
I could easily call you an unexperienced player because one would only need a backpack if they are unable to manage their inventory in a way that enough slots are left for everything they need.
Also, nomad lifestyles first off do NOT require all available space. I have a few Wes main friends that would rather walk around with a Magiluminescense, Hibearnation vest and sometimes a Raincoat than use a backpack, for reasons such as the ability to keep traveling after equipping a Log suit or Thulecite suit to fight, ability to use a Battle Helm or Thulecite Crown while fighting in the middle of the caves or nighttime without a lantern or campfire, or when dealing with splumonkeys.

My point is, you can't judge someone's skill level based on their playstyle. If someone doesn't want to use 8 extra inventory slots to carry more items that aren't currently being used, it's their choice and it could actually mean that they have a higher skill level since they know what they should carry and what they shouldn't.

Not like one can be preparing for everything during his travels with just a few inventory slots. You sure can go for like dfly kill without a bpack, but on your way you won't be able to grab all of the usefull stuff you see. Dumping everything for free space(basically, camping) at place pretty distant from all of the key spots is less efficient too. Im not saying that one is desperate for a good camping place or sthing, but its the question of efficiency which will save you alot of time later on. And thats not even a few minutes! I doubt that you don't bother with camping at all and play to just boss rush most efficiently every time. In that case your point would be entirely valid since during boss rush you get yellow amulet pretty much by the end of it, allowing you to effecively use space. But while playing sandbox - its unefficient.

I basically just use moneys as a main food source then go kill a random raid boss or two every season (bee queen and toadstool are the ones I don't do alone). I could just carry my magiluminescense, 2 stacks of fuel, helmet materials (2 slots), weapon (1 slot since I only use a hambat which I wrap in a bundle after fights), walking cane, tam o' shanter, food and pan flute and I'd still only be using 10 out of my 18 inventory slots. 2 slots I could use to carry materials for bundle wraps which I could use to wrap the boss loot I get and unpack it at my not-so-hidden loot storage area in the ruins. With that, I could still end up with 5 free slots (2 would be for bundle materials in addition to the other stuff and 1 would be the bundle, which for dfly would have the 3 ruins gems and scale since I usually just leave the other gems there for I have no use for them). Contrary to popular belief, carrying twigs, glass and flint all the time is NOT necessary. With those 2 free slots you could carry thing you find, then maybe bundle it up when you find more stuff to gather.

As if speed boosts arent powerful enough.

The player travels at a base speed of 5.8 m/s. To travel a distance of 1 kilometre (250 turfs), a Wilson with no equipment will take 2:52 hours. With a Walking Cane, it would take 2:18 hours. A Mighty Wolfgang with a Walking cane would take 1:50 hours, add the Magilluminescence and it's 1:32 hours. Now replace Wolfgang with an Overcharged WX-78, and it takes 1:17 hours. Have him walk on roads or cobblestones, and it takes 59 minutes.

Time Saved:

No Equipment: 0 minutes

Walking Cane: 34 minutes

Mighty + Cane: 1 hour and 2 minutes

Mighty + Cane + Magi: 1 hour and 20 minutes

Overload + Cane + Magi: 1 hour and 35 minutes

Overload + Cane + Magi + Roads: 1 hour and 53 minutes

And that's just 3 hours. Travel time will add up to many, many hours in one playthrough. Speed boosts save so much time, so much more than most players think. It's ridiculous how the majority of players downplay speed boosts.
