DevonBunny
Today I learned that this game loves to toss you curve balls. Too much liquid stored in a small tile room will result in a breakout. What curve balls has this game toss at you lately?
JykeThePerson
Water-pressure breaking everything... Nice experience with my previous base: make huge tank for water, let water in, the tank breaks. Load previous save. Strengthen the tank. Not good enough! Load again. . . Good times! I guess somewhat good "curve-ball" could be with my all-vomiters -crew (ok, 8/10)! Thought it was better than everyone breaking everything: NOPE! Vomit on the floor -> mop it -> someone somewhere somehow vomits 'cause walking on vomit was stressing. Unable to get my guys calm down. . . And as extra, as if vomit rain that reaches my only pool of clean water wasn't enough: the moment vomit touches my Mealwoods: they wither away! (Base's temperature is quite high, but stable! Add warm vomit & it's too hot!)

FifthSurprise
Once I realized that mealwood plants consume gases, suddenly all of my base problems were solved. I kept trying to figure out why I was losing atmospheric pressure until I learned about that.

McStar007
Maybe have a wall specifically made for withstanding pressure? EDIT: I guess i should've posted this in the suggestions forum, but oh well. I don't want this idea uploaded there.
Saturnus
I have minimum two clean water tanks just any case, despite all my efforts to make it impossible that there is an accident with one of them, I always can rely on the other. And these are always double walled and triple bottomed and built by minimum granite. No accidents after doing this. Also just the fact that they're two smaller tanks, instead of a single large one helps. I haven't bothered to reverse engineer it completely yet but single walled sandstone bricks cracks when used in a 6x6 sq. tank filled. Fill in just a fraction more and they break. Double walled sandstone bricks tanks breaks when there's more than 9x9 sq. of water in a tank Granite has 8 times the hardness, so logically granite bricks have the same. I should note that air permeable tiles of copper can also break. Use iron if you want to be sure they won't.

DevonBunny
Today i learned that poorly manage resources will lead to your doom. it was all going great.... until i ran out of water. then things quickly started going down hill. 123 days is still a record for me... so i have to work on a better count. Saturnus
Best tip is to limit yourself to 6-8 dupes. Much easier to manage. Kill off you scientist when all research is done, and replace him with a better long term one. Make sure you have an artist absolutely spray painting the base and doing practically nothing else until his skill has risen to at least +15 in artistic skill. Then tear it all down and redecorate the whole place and get rid of him as well.
Sonatta
So I let a few mobs into the base (a hatch and a pufts) and at first I thought they were just friendly and can co-exist with my colony til that hatch just ate a sleeping dupe! I immediately sounded the red alert and I killed that crab for food. I kept a keen eye on the puft if it'll do the same but after a few cycles, he's chilling in the bio distillers. Free slime! I ran out of water due to mismanaging it so my colony died out after. Restarted a new colony and look what I've found. I haven't experimented with morbs yet as they need chlorine and I don't know what use chlorine for at this point of the game.

None so far so let them eat it, they will produce contaminated oxygen. Given there is one trapped in 1x1 for 260 cycles. they don't need to breathe bud overheating can kill them. Also, falling objects. What I learned is, if you don't use things that loose water due chunk destroying, it is heat that gets you.

I don't dig through code like you, but that goes against observations so far. Trapped morb in chlorine cave will clear it of chlorine a replace it with contaminated oxygen.
