Oh yeah, I've done that.  Only on Don't Starve _singleplayer_ though...I wouldn't want to subject unsuspecting bystanders to that.  (It might make possible new friends run away, and current friends not like me as much, if I didn't warn them!) 

I did this as Wigfrid and found myself a _vaguely_ quietish place to make a small camp, and although it was dangerous I was soon swimming in resources, including ones you don't see all that often such as butter and electric milk.  (And gears, of course.  SO MANY GEARS.)  Ah, I remember it well...(harp music, scene goes all wavy)...lulled to sleep every night by the melodic pouncing of the catcoons on the butterflies...

I made it a full year and _almost_ one more season, before I accidentally died of darkness while trying to ditch Dragonfly and run away to my summer base.  Went through that wormhole just a _second_ too late.  Whoops.

Although for the record, I _did_ successfully lose the Dragonfly.  : P

as a wicker i was once regrowing my sweet tentacles around beequeen (you know, usual stuff with broken grass walls) when i heard hounds roaring around and decided that tentacles will help me (instead of running with hounds on my tail all the way to the base) and you know what? they did a good job, even though it was spring

...and yes,a red also died there, had to remade it all

another fail was mistaking summer frest for rain coat when i was going to charge a robot. yes, lethal

my bud tried to kill klaus with teethtraps. yes, deers died. yes, we were resetting them for ages (i knew it's bad idea, he insisted). we gave up at second phase (we managed to get him there, lul) because of multiple deaths by that time and no resources left

also ideas:

catch 80 killer bees and store them wrapped (actually i don't know if they'll survive, can anyone tell?), mix them with other supplies or gift it to another base (or your)

tell your friends that you are into swamp basing

speaking of swamp - make a base there as a wendy (or with)

one more: thinking you are out of range of tentacle

placing wardrobe at the corner of the land

getting all the gekkos of the world under your fence for easy grass

using chester as a mine bomb with 180\240 killer bees (damn, that's a valid stradegy for krampus [if he weren't that easy])

Actually, you can use toothtraps to hurt Klaus, but you just need to space them out more so that the deer don't step on them as often
