DST Troubles with Resuming a World{SOLVED}

Recommended Posts

I bought DST for a friend of mine about a week ago and we've been playing together nonstop since. I host a world on my end ( no dedicated server, didn't see the need for one since we're just friends playing. We played with no mods and then slowly I taught them how to use mods and I even incorporated some into the server but none of which are anything more than 'tweaks' really. The stuff that changes drastically I tend to stick away from.

Now on to my error....  I can't resume a world. We'll play to about day 30 usually in game and then take a break or go to bed or whatever... the following day, I can't resume the world. I have had this happen both WITH mods and WITHOUT. DO I HAVE  to have a dedicated server just to play with a single friend or two.

>Make world (usually with mods)
>play for 20-30 ingame days
>Call it a night
>sleep -wake up
> resume world (can't, error)
>turn off mods, game freezes or gives the same error

... same thing happens without mods, it'll just never load the resuming world....

Any help?

EDIT: I HAVE learned that it's a corrupt save and I'm looking through every option I can find to save it/stop it from happening. Thank you for your help. I'll make a final edit if any of the options work out.

FINAL EDIT: My problem as been solved, thank you all for your help.

It also depends on which mods. Some of them don't play well with others, and some are meant to be activated only at worldgen, not later on.  Sometimes this just makes it so the things they create at worldgen don't show up...sometimes it crashes the entire game.  Again, depends on what mod and how it was made.

Also, some mods don't like it when you play with them in the game for a bit and then turn them off, on the same world.  The fact that you were turning them off and then resuming could also _be_ part of your problem.

For example--just for example--let's say you were playing with the Shipwrecked Characters mod.  Somebody briefly tried playing as Warly, then left.  Their specific Warly-only portable crockpot might be left behind.  You turn the server on again with the Shipwrecked Characters mod _off_ this time, there's an item in the world that belongs to a character _that doesn't exist anymore_, and the game goes "WHAAAAA?????" and brain-freezes.

Not saying you did that (or something like it), but it's a factor to consider.

Normally when this happens the game shouldn't actually 'brain-freeze'. Said item will simply cease to exist, removed cleanly without problems.

Anyhow, seeing as OP said they restarted the server initially without editing the mods this is something else that should be able to be seen in the client log.

Ah. I wasn't sure.  Anyway, I thought I'd chime in on this simply because I was having a similar problem myself--had to keep trying to start, deleting, putting all my settings back in and trying AGAIN to start a world with various mod combinations, until I finally got it to work.  (Protip:  Apparently "Increase Animals" and the Teleportato mod don't like each other.  The game will start successfully with one OR the other activated--not both.)

Still, the general principle holds that sometimes the game doesn't like it if something was activated at world-gen and then turned off later.  (shrug)

Hey @Verdigris did you try verifying your game cache?

  1. Go to your steam library
  2. right click DST
  3. select properties
  4. go to local files

I do know how to do this, haven't tried to. Thank you; forgot this was an option.

Your client_log.txt says your save file is corrupt. Use the rollback feature when reloading your world, if you have autosave enabled (why wouldn't you?) you'll lose one day at most. It is usually possible to manually recover corrupt save files, but it's not all that simple and generally not worth it. You might still want to file a bug report following the link @Arlesienne posted so the devs can try and find out why that would happen.

Yes, shortly after posting this I was looking more into it myself and have learned it's a 'corrupt file' However, I'm about halfway through a list of steps and options for fixing it and it's not looking good. Not really.... Nothing is really seeming to solve my problem.

The error mentions a #, it could be some value being written as 1.#INF or -1.#INF or something similar. Try this:

Locate the save file - it should be named "0000000013" and be located in

(My) Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\Cluster_X\Master\save\session\60A859CF1D0E2427

if you have caves enabled if you have caves enabled (the X in Cluster_X is your save slot) or

(My) Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\client_save\session\60A859CF1D0E2427

if you don't have caves in your world. Make a backup juuust in case. Open the file with a text editor, I suggest Notepad++. Try looking for and deleting any ocurrence of ".#INF" or ".#IND" without the quotation marks. Look for # if you don't find a match. Save and run the game. ...?? Profit?

Or you can upload the file here if you're not sure how to do it.
