Silvercide
I also would like to hear firsts of other things also My first night was not the best one. You know that little x shaped biome you spawn in? For some reason I thought that if you leave that area during night something will kill you. I died from darkness...... I also have another story. I survived the first few nights (FINALLY) so i was pretty confident. I found the eye bone and picked it up of course. "boing boing boing" Out of the corner of my eye I see a horrible, disgusting, no eyed beast who looks like it will put my head in it's mouth and slowly digest it It was coming closer..... I ran "boing boing boing" "I WILL NOT BE FOOLED BY THAT BOINGING YOU BEAST!!!" This continued for several days I attempted to run through a swamp and got destroyed by tentacles. "BOING BOING BOING" On my death screen I see a fuzzy little drooly creature who just wanted that little bone. Rily
During my first time in Don't starve I never thought that the night would bring complete darkness... and the grue (before we met her as Charlie), that really surprised me because the game doesn't looked like something hard for me, I was stuned by the beauty of the animations and I spent the whole first day watching the animals and inspecting everything (since the first beta, the game was visually awesome), and when I saw the crafting tabs was too late. Dying in the first days is a crucial part of the game, that's when you realize that you are playing something serious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/72274-your-first-night-or-something/#findComment-844896 Share on other sites
Developer ImDaMisterL Posted December 5, 2016 Developer Share Posted December 5, 2016 I don't remember how my first playthrough went, but I know I survived more than a day! I had spoilers of the game mechanics 0-0 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/72274-your-first-night-or-something/#findComment-844917 Share on other sites
An Artifact
I had an identical experience when I found my first eyebone... x3 I actually vividly remember my very first night; got a campfire right next to the ocean border, and had Wilson stare onto the dark, non-caring waves as I nervously glanced across the screen trying to check for anything wanting to kill me. Then a few days later I got pecked to death by a Tallbird. Good times... Fruerte
My first night was like 4 years ago in beta of 2012, I barely remember it... I think I've ran out of twigs, bonfire went out and Charlie got me. Totally not cool or poetic, I know. CaptainChaotica
I actually didn't have a lot of the traditional newbie experiences, because of how I got into the game. I had heard people mentioning this game called "Don't Starve" on a podcast I used to listen to, and it sounded interesting, so I wanted to know what it was actually like. To that end I looked up Let's Plays on YouTube. They were mostly of also just-starting people who weren't very good at it yet, but I kept watching long after deciding that yes, this was indeed a game for me, because the Let's Plays themselves were entertaining. As a result, I unfortunately learned about stuff like darkness (although, as a veteran Zork and Shadowgate player, I might've figured that out on my own), insanity effects, hounds, winter, and when not to go near beefalo--before I even took one step in the game myself. That SAID, the way I first died? I think it was the night of Day 35 or thereabouts...it went dark, and although I had ample campfire materials, I was in the middle of a dense forest and could _not_ for the life of me make the campfire silhouette turn green before hhhHHHHIIiiiissss --You lasted 34 days! Here are your experience points and the new character you unlocked. So...my first death...was still by darkness. Too bad I forgot torches exist! : P (My actual _first_ night was pretty uneventful--made a campfire in a random place, probably a plain, and just stayed by it until morning. Cooked some berries and seeds...I do remember an early-days first night where I accidentally camped too close to a spider den and had to fend them off with my axe during the night, but I think that was my second or third playthrough.) ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/72274-your-first-night-or-something/#findComment-845347 Share on other sites
