Greetings fellow forum members and guys and gals from Klei,

I started recently to play DST again and finally broke the 1000 hours mark (happyyyyy ^___^)

We all know and "love" our Hounds, recently we got the Vargling the family got a little bit bigger, but maybe there could be more?

At the moment we have 4 seasons in the game and depending on them we get the basic Hound and 2 special versions.

But with relatively little effort we could mix the seasonal difference a bit more up.

latest?cb=20141212082839

Lets see:

1. Summer - Red Hound - explodes and ignites things - drops red gems

2. Winter - Blue Hound - explodes and freezes things - drops blue gems

3. Spring - Yellow Hound - explodes and electrify things  - rarely drops yellow gems

(does more damage if you are wet...good old spring weather ^___^, boosts WX, electrifys Volt Goats and the Lightning Rod)

4. Autumn - Green Hound - explodes and spoils things - rarely drops green gems

(explodes in a cloud of decay that, if you stand in it spoils the food, hambat, melonhat, etc. in your inventory,

poison could also be an option, but is bound to SW at the moment)

The effort is relatively small, it is basically a "little" change in colour and use of the electrify and decay cloud mechanics that are already in the game,

but it would make the seasons more diverse, without blowing the development time up. (making new bosses is very time consuming for example)

Thanks if you did read that post to that point, what is your opinion about seasonal changes?

P.S.

I love my little Vargling. ^____^

Unnatural Selection actually already has the new hounds programmed! (one for every gem) It just isn't going to be released for a good long while because it's got SO MUCH content...

orange = autumn (has the power of teleportation)
blue = winter (stays relatively the same)
green = spring (tries to destroy structures)
red = summer (stays relatively the same)
purple = night time any season (destroys sanity and spawns a random nightmare monster on death)
yellow = during the rain any season (runs circles around the player, leaves an electricity trail you can't step on, and lightning strikes when it is killed)

Well the mod also has a LOT of content at the same time as these other projects being a thing that I'm working on...

Yeah, but the reason it's taking a long time isn't because it has a lot of content, it's because it isn't being touched in the moment.

Why a special hounds for autumn? Just have the normal hounds during the season, as the season is supposed to be a bit calmer and easier anyway. And poison itself... rather wait until/if Shipwrecked gets imported into DST and then even consider it. But since the DLC has quite a bit of animals with poison already and it would seem quite bizarre to have a poisonous hound, I think it should just be left out.

Although a poisonous frog would be cool...

And now that I think about it, last three updates have each given us a boss fight... huh, that's pretty nice.

Yeah, my mod have hound programmed too, but they are more simple than your, i'm far away from your coding skill and amazing things like electrical trail is far beyond my skill. But i love them as they are <3

For me, it's because even if autumn is more easy and peaceful than others seasons, this season should become a little more dangerous over time. So in first autumn, you set your base, your prepare winter and a little spring, in winter you try to survive and finish prepare spring, and start preparing summer (stock of ice). In spring you finish your preparation for summer, and in summer... I don't know for others people but usually i don't prepare as much things in summer than in the others seasons.

So having a little more challenge in autumn (not that much, since it's just one special hound time to time) will maybe help to the dynamic of the game. First autumn should keep this peaceful tone, second and more could be a little more spicy, with enough peace to let you prepare the others seasons and keep a pace with quiet moments.
