hotflungwok
I've played more than 1000 hours of DS, but I've only just started playing DST. I like some of the changes I've seen, others make me wonder a bit (3 moosegoose spawn at the same time with their eggs at the beginning of spring inches from my base?). But whatever has changed in combat is killing me, literally. I think what's going on is that you can now interrupt any action at any point, which cancels the action and begins the new one. So if I take a swipe at something, and I hit a move key before the attack finishes then the attack never hits and I start moving. I think. I've had some situations where I clicked on something to attack and I moved around the thing instead and totally missed. All I really know is that I'm getting slapped around a lot more than I'm used to. So what's changed? What am I used to doing that I shouldn't be doing anymore? What do I need to be doing now? SillyWilson
Yeah, you can cancel your attack by moving. It's really useful for starting spider wars as Webber >:3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/71179-new-to-dst-changes-in-combat/#findComment-829793 Share on other sites

Yes this is a true but can be helpful if you're playing Wendy and want Abigail to attack some with out having to hit it yourself. Very important question have you turned movement prediction off? hotflungwok
I am unaware of anything called move prediction so it's at whatever the default is. Is this a world setting? Pyr0mrcow
It's pretty easy to time actions once you're used to it, though. As long as the server connection is stable. At least this prediction stuff has improved massively over the past few years. Old multiplayer for stuff like the original Halo was...rather amazing. hotflungwok
So that's really the problem then, I'm just interrupting my own attacks? And you can't use space to auto-attack anymore, so I have to relearn all the timing involved in kiting. Joy. hotflungwok
Turning off Lag Compensation made a huge difference. Now it feels exactly like like DS. I've only been playing on my own server to try and get used to it, not sure how that would have messed me up so much. Oh well, it's working now. And using F is good too, easier to fight when you're in a forest or something. ShadowDuelist
A few things that helped me to know, after calling bad names involved with family members to several mobs for a while: Armor no longer stacks and has low durability compared to ds, so you need to keep the idea of making them more often. Having a helmet and body armor extends the life of both items as the damage is spread. If the connection is unstable no matter how awesome your kiting skills are, you will get hit a lot. In such cases have a B plan to make mobs kill eachother or just faceroll certain situations. Escaping works too. Dfly is now an all year long raid boss and all the tactics of DS to fight her do not work. I wouldnt fight her unless you are very aware of her new abilities. Griefers are another never mentioned mob to fight. Dont trust people easily and hide, if possible, your base of suspicious newcomers. You can also have a secret b plan lair in case he griefers attack. Or make a newcomers base to trick them into thinking they are burning your real base. Point clicking followers to attack no longer works but canceling attack action does the same in dst. Maxwell, Woodie and Willow are quite different in dst, I suggest you try them to see their differences. Wigfrid is a little different but not that noticeable as the prevously mentioned ones. Wx has been buffed. The rest are the same as in Ds. Thats the basic stuff that helped me to feel comfortable at dst at least. I hope it helps. Pyr0mrcow
Cave bases don't get touched often, too much effort for most griefers. Also, since Dragonfly's year-round and bound to a nest, it can kill other seasonal bosses for you. Lead other boss into nest without aggroing the fly, get them to walk close to eachother, Dfly goes over and annihilates it. Go back to nest, lead Dfly to the edge of its nest so it leaves for a bit, then go over and grab the loot. A little camp near the nest for Bearger/Deerclops spawns is nice to have. Prakhar
For me, turning lag compensation off is even worse. The game gets clunky and seems unresponsive. I'd rather kite something by hitting it once instead if twice or just tanking it since marble is so plentiful right now.
