Problem with burning books

I have seen Woodie making a normal axe with Lucy lying in the close vicinity of some big monster, hitting a tree once, and said normal axe magically turning into Lucy again (on Klei servers though).

Alright, a slightly different approach: does NOBODY feel something is inherently wrong with burning books? It's not about griefing through burning books, say, the Codex Umbra, but burning books in general.

That's why some are suggesting a punishment for those savage book burners

Yes, and in the way you meant. In the _real life_ "burning books is wrong" sense, yes.  Definitely.  Nasty implications there, if you think about it too hard.

Although I'm expressing it in an in-universe kind of way.  (shrug)

Actually,

I'm afraid I would be much more aggravated with THAT than any other discussion of cannibalism (I'm not getting involved in one of Those Talks, sorry). I don't think I want to hear people saying what it says about me now. There are taboos of various kinds in different cultures, but burning books never changes (for good reasons).

Ahem.

Although its all thought, people will just grow smart of the book burning ceremonies sooner or later..

Honestly tho, i think the codex should have a nasty surprise to those who wish to burn such a sassy book.
Lets not forget, its fused with Nightmare fuel.

End is Nigh though. If that many lightnings hit you at once, you'll learn to keep it away from the fire

True true, and like someone said before about STS; if you burn it, it could act like you ate a mandrake. But then what about the other two? Birds of the world and the other one, i think its something with Agricultural. I would be nice to, again, see Klei implement something nasty, yet comical. After all they have strange new powers.

Applied Horticulture should wither everything around.

Birds of the World is the hardest to think of something that actually does something for. I guess spawns a lot of birds but they instantly fly away, like the whole "birds flying to signify danger" cliche.

Maybe spawn vultures that auto aggro onto you or tallbirds that "poof" in, almost like how clockwork appear in Adventure mode when your rescuing Wes.. Only for him to die.

...there's a lot of that going on in this game, come to think of it, isn't there?  Maxwell gets freed?  Dies.  Wes gets rescued?  Dies.  And  you unlock Webber by burying his _skull_.

...not to mention that still-locked characters are pictured with a CASKET in the character-select screen... : P

Oh yea i forgot to point this out earlier; WX will get healed upon burning the book (if our theory is, it releases 2x the amount of lightning) thought, he does go insane.. Maybe it should cause a rash thunderstorm?

There is no reason for other players to take the codex umbra other than trolling or in a rare circumstance in which emergency fuel is needed and the codex is the only option. I'm extremely surprised that non-Maxwells can still pick it up. If they are to stay able to pick it up, the codex should cause massive sanity drain when in the inventory of a non-Maxwell.

I think people would loop-hole this in everywhich way (i.e taffy and greencaps) just to hold onto it. I think if your not Maxwell and you log off, you should drop it like chesters eyebone. Why? Because you dont need to use it for godsakes!

In DST the book should just reform instantly if it is destroyed.

But then how does this give trolls "payback" for destroying the umbra?

  • Books can now be used as fuel for Fire.

I liked every part of the update EXCEPT for this one. If it wasn't already enough for anyone to pick up Maxwell's Codex Umbra, this just only encourages public server trolling for Wickerbottom and Maxwell players.

Honestly, I don't see why you would want to use these books as fuel in the first place. It just does more harm than good. If you want fuel, just stockpile on logs or beefalo wool. Too many books? Why get rid of it? I understand they were burnable before, but that is when you had the option of putting it out or even grabbing it before something happens. Here, someone could just take the books and burn it without anything to stop them, just to be in spite of you.

I would go into more detail but the previous comments pretty much covered what I have to say.

This needs to get reverted back... or at least have some way to prevent book trolling. :|

As a Wickerbottom player(I play her frequently) I don't much care if someone were to burn my books mostly because they're pretty easy to make, now if I was Maxwell I would be quite angered if someone burned my book because that's one of my perks, and it's hard to make costing 50 hp, I really do hope they add effects that harm the pyromanic that burns books and if they do I think the Codex Umbra should at least have the most harmful side effect of being burned.
