I'd start by removing the gears thing myself. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to encourage people to waste a fairly precious resource in a multiplayer version of the game.

In fact, it might not be a bad idea to instead make him produce gears in limited quantities, somehow.

so what if he was able to make a sort of 'gear' for himself out of a few other rare but not exactly crucial resources (gems?) and depending on the ingredients he gets different changes? perhaps he could also change his buffs/nerfs depending on which recipe is used. a recipe for every occasion sort of thing, ie a recipe involving a red gem could either keep him warm or give him a higher tolerance to heat, or something involving a honey poultice or a purple gem even could buff his health and so on. 

he could make his own wepon, the GEAR OF WAR.

I tend to view WX as male since he seems to view himself that way. 

To me, he's male in the same way that Bender is.

Yes! This is one of the reasons why I see WX as a male.

and I saw the new update Klei did!

The Mx. is still there, but now wolfgang calls WX a metal man as well.

So to me since 2 other characters use different ways to refer to WX, that means that they aren't very sure what WX is. That means its still completely cool to say WX is a he or an it. bc even the game characters arent sure.

I'm pretty happy with that! That means everyone can choose what they feel fits best :].

My reading of WX is 'genderless, but masculine'. WX's official pronoun was 'it' in singleplayer and is now 'them' in DST, and I'd rather use the official pronouns myself, but on the other hand WX's idea of formal attire includes a fancy moustache and they refer to another WX on the Nightmare Throne as "brother". By contrast the only time WX seems to lean more feminine is by wearing a dress in a couple scenes of the DST trailer. (I'm pretty sure the skin choices were picked deliberately rather than just being whatever the devs happened to have equipped, because they seem to be specifically showing off the Guest of Honor, Survivor, and Triumphant skins; the only other skins shown are some common gloves and shoes.)

So, yeah, I think of WX as a "them" -- calling a character "it" makes me uncomfortable, even a robot -- but they do seem closer to seeing themself as male than as female. And besides, it's not as if saying that your version of WX is male is equivalent to saying no one is allowed to see WX as gender-neutral. People are allowed to have different interpretations, y'know?

Hey everyone,

 

With the new update to DST, I noticed that all of the other characters call WX They, and Maxwell calls WX Mx.

 

I wanted to know what everyone thought of that.

 

I’ve been a fan of Don’t Starve for 3 years now and a huge fan of WX, and I’ve always thought WX was a he. WX genders all of the machines around him, calls copies of himself on the throne brother, and even draws a mustache on his face in his GoH skin, so I didn’t see any reason why not to call him a he.

 

Now, I’m unsure of what to call WX.

 

I’m also concerned because I have seen some people on tumblr start to apologize for seeing as WX a he.  I’m conflicted on how to feel about this.

 

I want to still think it’s fair to call WX a he.

 

Or at least, he/they?

 

What do you all think?

 

I heard that Klei is still working on the player examination quotes, so maybe this isn’t permanent, but I’d still like to know what everyone thinks.

 

It would really help me out if I could hear what a developer thought as well, but they don't have to.

 Being a robot, I assumed they were simply gender neutral with preferences, as a machine is technically not alive.

Yeah, because human is a complicated word. He clearly does not take terminology too serious, and gender probably not either. Similiarly, "BROTHER" is a lot nicer to say than "SIBLING", right?

It's physical gender is, unless X-ray technology reveals a pizzeria guest with identifiable gender inside, neutral. It's code gender is "robot". It's social gender is male though, because that's more personal and closer to WX's behaviour than female. EDIT: Or is it?
