I suck at Adventure Mode *probable spoilers*

So I can use my beard for a warmth factor, even as Webber? I had thought differently, that only Wilson could do that.

It's not as good as Wilson's, but the full silk beard should still make a notable difference.

I tried many times and the 3rd world was my best score. And you know what? I turned off RoG. And it was quite easy.

Taken Wilson to make effigies, but no single one was used. Maybe that's because I got lucky in 4th world - "Two Worlds", because there was a second, "healthy" wormhole on my island.

The 5th world, Darkness, was super easy. Really. I had 20 jerky, miner hat, walking cane and 20 fireflies from start. There was a fire staff when I spawned. I used it to kill clockworks easily.

And some advice for unlocking Wes:

One marble suit should be enough to tank robots. I made 3 suits and 3 helmets (used tentacle spike of course), but it was really easy, I thought it will be pretty hard.

RoG doesn't really affect a lot.

NOTE: I finished Adventure Mode before RoG, so I'm not sure of the impact or changes RoG introduces. If there are changes that you're struggling with, I'd recommend turning it off and going through it Vanilla for now.

I played as WX, and I feel like he's the easiest character of them all. Gears are abundant in every world, so I was able to quickly max out his stats. As others have said, restart if your first world is King of Winter, it's not worth the struggle.

With the exception of King Of Winter, I took my time in each world and set up some sort of base so I didn't have to be constantly on the move and possibly miss out on crafting. My longest one was The Game Is Afoot, I was there about a full game year since it was my second world and there was an abundance of resources to gather for prototyping.

Before leaving the 4th world and going to Darkness, I made sure I had pre-crafted everything possible. I took over: walking cane, full stack of gears, full stack of fireflies, hammer. As soon as I entered the Darkness level, I went to the closest Maxwell's Light, placed all those pre-crafted items down, hammered them for their resources, and made the Miner's Hat.

After that, the only thing I had to do was keep on the move looking for all the Things. Sanity/hunger/health wasn't an issue because of all the gears, and I never had to stop and catch fireflies to refill my Miner's Hat. There's more touchstones in this world, and I'd leave a few resources at each one - a gear, a couple torches, things like that - so I could more easily recover if I died. Made a couple log suits and spears to get through the clockworks at the Teleportato, and then done!

A few tips for King of Winter... make sure you've prototyped a shovel before you get there. You'll be making fires constantly, so dig up resources like grass/twigs/berry bushes and use the plants for fire fuel instead of your logs. Also, may as well dig up the green caps you find since they won't be growing back either. At the sanity bridge, eat a couple raw green caps to quickly drop your sanity, run through, then eat a couple cooked green caps to recover. Before you run through the sanity bridge though, make sure you've thoroughly explored the prior biomes and aren't missing any other bridges... ideally, you don't want to have to come back through.

After completing AM, I still had to unlock Wes, so then I just rushed through the worlds so I could get to the third one more quickly. If it was Two Worlds, I'd kill myself and start again.

You don't need to bring fireflies for the last world. There's fireflies in abundance, and making a net shouldn't be a problem with that many spiders. Bring a miner hat or make one immediately though, it is the key to the last world.

RoG doesn't really affect a lot.

It does, wiki is not right with some informations.

For example, there is no eternal autmun (summer in vanilla DS) in The Game is Afoot, so staying there something like 1-2 years to make everything you need (a lot of time, but it really helps) is much harder because of summer and giants.

I made really cool base in The Game is Afoot, with Beefalo pen and stuff. Lurplant grew three times in my camp eating items from the ground, but I did it and completed Advenure Mode.

So, RoG really changes gameplay. It adds moleworms which is nice, but makes things really harder.

I found the biggest help for me in Adventure Mode was to consider the whole world as a consumable. In other words, no big deal ruining non-renewables. You can burn 4-6 logs to keep a hot fire through the night, or you can burn two grass tufts. You can get +15 from one green cap or dig it up for +30. Destroy those spider dens. Dig up rabbit holes. Leave your world devastated if you have to. Whatever makes things easiest, do them. Good luck!

People say that WX-78 is the best character for Adventure Mode. I think it's Wilson, because a really important part of Adventure Mode is winter - King of Winter, The Game is Afoot, A Cold Reception - in those chapters you'll face winter. Wilson's beard is great for insulation.
My succesful adventure mode run started from King of Winter. I managed to finish it and the stayed for something like two years in second chapter, The Game is Afoot

I think it's Wickerbottom because of her early equipment boost, but others may disagree because of her insomnia. It's really just about personal preference, though the common opinion is that the start is the hardest part about adventure mode.

Wait, hammering down the Maxwell's Light? Are you sure?

WX is best since you can easily get a full stack of gears, and never worry about your stats.

All I could remember was moleworms and deciduous forest. I try to stay less than 20 Days, so never had to experience the summer.

Wait, hammering down the Maxwell's Light? Are you sure?

He placed stuff like birdcage, science machine, lighting rod, fire pit etc.
Then he hammered those structures down to get half of the items he used while crafting them.
He did it near Maxwell's Light just because it gives light so it's easier ;)

For example, if you place science machine, birdcage and lighting rod and then hammer it down, you will get 6 gold nuggets (and some rubbish).

If the beginning is the hardest, and King of Winter is the hardest to start in, I have a really good feeling about the rest of the journey! I think I only have one more insanity bridge to cross, and dapper clothing is easy as Webber. So is food, I just have to find isolated spiders and kill them since monster meat doesn't have any negatives.

I feel you, original poster...I SUCK at adventure mode.  Most of the things I know now I only know from the wiki/forums, such as make things but don't put them down so you can still take them with you--never thought of that, for some reason!  I also tend to stay in my first world possibly too long, trying to get the right materials for prototyping my favourite things.

And yes, RoG does affect things in adventure mode.  Namely, in...I think it was A Cold Reception, where the seasons can change WICKED fast.  I was overheating to death with _snow on the ground_!  With.  SNOW.  On. The ground.  It was the weirdest thing ever. Then a couple days later, it was snowing again.  I felt like I was on the gods-damned Genesis Planet.  The next morning dawned with the light all sepia and I was like, "Ohhhhh, no.  It is not summer.  It is NOT summer.  You GOTTA be kidding me!"

This is Don't Starve, so, no.  It wasn't.  :p

...Notorious

So I can't resist bringing this thread back up because of what just happened. I was actually following this thread for some AM advice, as I, too, suck at it.

Anyway, don't feel bad. I was dying in the first world every single attempt I made. FINALLY something went click and I made it through the first world. Then the second. The third and fourth were crazy easy by that point, as I was playing WX and was fully leveled. So I got into the Darkness level, which I was extremely nervous about as I didn't know what to expect, and brought a full stack of jerky, a miner's hat, a half stack of fireflies, and a walking cane that I literally just stumbled on next to a skeleton in the 4th world (which was dumb luck, since MacTusk didn't spawn in my fourth world). I ran through the level and in less than 5 days found 3 of the 4 things and the place to build it. I realized I had to go back, which I didn't want to do because of the sanity gate (and because I knew I already got the things from those areas), so I assumed there had to be another area splitting off from this somewhat large wasp bridge. Had close to full health, even found Chester, and the wasps killed me. I nearly cried.

The lesson I learned? There were 2 respawn things I didn't notice on my map until getting past the sanity gate. I decided not to go back for them because I thought lowering my sanity again would be too risky. Now I have to start all over again...after spending ridiculous amounts of time on this mode all week. I know some people say that it can be kinda rushed through, but I was only able to get through it when I took my time and DIDN'T rush. :(

But anyway. At least I have a story to tell, I guess. And I didn't get Wes the first time, so I knew I would have to replay it anyway. This next time, I will try getting through the worlds faster than I did the first time...especially since I know what to expect. But I still think I will end up finding out that I will have to take it slowly again.
