Maxwell no magical powers

Recommended Posts

Waxwell should start at least with a purple gem. Waxwell is magician, but without a purple gem, I wasn't able to get the shadow manipulator going until Day 40 tonight. Yes, you could dig graves. I usually can manage to make the manipulator by Day 10. However, it depends on the grave digging luck. If you just didn't get both colors of gems, then your only chance are: 1) wait for hounds: takes until summer since red hounds doesn't show up before that; 2) go to caves; 3) kill the dragonfly.

Waxwell is so naked without the Night Armor, and so weak without the Dark Sword. Now that he didn't start with neither, he should at least have his gem. Yes, this might in turn make the world full of purple gem for each joined player, but Wigfrig did not make the world full of meat either.

Nah. You are thinking the Singleplayer way, but with more players it's easier to get the stuff you need for a shadow manipulator. And it's not something you need at day 10, really.

You can wear different armours in the meantime.

althooough a purple gem wouldn't be so bad. But I guess it doesn't really matter

Without trying too hard I was able to get the prestihatitator by day five and only needed the gem (and a little more fuel) for the shadow manipulator, which I was about to go get from a bishop before the server shut down. Think it's fine as is. (This was working by myself btw)

Maybe i'm just being a huge noob but how do you summon shadow puppets? I can only Inspect the codex umbra despite having fuel in my inventory.

Drop it on the ground - Codex Umbra works like a crafting station in DST.

Yes, as long as you are there as the server start so that you manage to find the bishop before someone else does (as long as you get the purple gem), usually you can manage to put the manipulator by Day 10. That is my first goal in game: by Day 10, get full map and shadow manipulator (of course, along with a functioning base with icebox and 4 crockpots).

By Day 10?

I agree with @hyiltiz completely, and support the idea of a temporary type of armor upon start.

The one thing that set maxwell apart from the other characters is that he was able to achieve Tier 2 magic faster then any other character.

This would also help because now that he spawns with no armor or darksword, he has a hard time keeping himself protected early game. There was even a scenario in PVP where @Flare2V was being chased by 2 wigfrids on Day 1. So I'm not sure if maybe he just needs some unique type of armor, or maybe a health increase. But him having a purple gem would make a huge difference both in PvE and PvP.

Never had a problem getting purple gems, just take some time to explore caves and you should get red/blue gems from earthquakes or stalagmites.

To be fair, even if he wasn't maxwell he would be chased by wigfrids on day 1.

Maxwell is fantastic just the way he is. If he started with any combat gear, he could easily wreak havoc on public/pvp servers and spawning with such valuable items makes him susceptible to abuse on co-operative wilderness servers.

He is a risk vs. reward character; dapper but frail. While he might not be as easy a character to pick up as others if you're not familiar with his perks and downsides he is absolutely fantastic when you utilize him to his fullest potential.

Meat spoils and her spear/helmet aren't particularily valuable. Purple gems and nightmare equipment are.

I was an exclusive Maxwell player. Dark sword and night armor were  something I never go anywhere unsafe without, especially night armor. Maxwell has such low health that there are even some mobs that can take him out at a single strike or two, even before you notice. He is so frail that, without night armor, he feels practically naked. Now, he is begging all around for Wigfrig helmet even more than any other character since he is much more likely to die by accident (they happen, however good you are), even if you are not dumb. A night armor doesn't have high durability, so having it gives nothing more than early life protection.

In RoG single player, since armor durability stacked, you would protect your night armor with a football helmet. In that way, not only you get less damage, your night armor also lasted longer. That is no longer the case in DST, so starting with a single night armor does not make Maxwell overpowered than other characters. E.g. Wigfrig starts with 4 meat, which could basically take her to Day 6 without practically looking for food; you eat cooked monster meat and when necessary eat cooked meat. By Day 6, you have most of the map, and you are still sane even without prototyping a single recipe.

I am still looking for a specific documentation for Maxwell's perks now. Although Maxwell's sanity perk is nerfed, he is still able to hold night armor and dark sword and still not loose sanity: his dapperness is DAPPERNESS_LARGE = 100/(day_time*3), which is 3 times smaller than original! On the other hand, night armor and dark sword has CRAZINESS_SMALL = -100/(day_time*2),  CRAZINESS_MED = -100/(day_time), which makes them usable for him.

For those Maxwell players, yes it is true that in DS RoG these items drained so much sanity that even Maxwell drained sanity while yielding both at the same time. Nerfing Maxwell and his 2 items makes those items also more accessible to other players, which (again!), makes Maxwell less of a magician compared to others. For example, with Tam o' Shanter, Wickerbottom is almost the New Maxwell, even with more "magical" powers.

So, such a long expected great William Carter, love of my life, life of my love, please come back with your might, as you did after those minions gained Strange New Powers with All's Well That Maxwell.
