"Ƨ...ƧOЯЯY, I DIDИ'T MƎAИ TO ƧCAЯE YOU."

The shape in the chair made Wiffleball very nervous. It hadn't moved once, so he had no real reason to be scared of it; yet somehow, the unnatural stillness just made it more unsettling, not less. Something about it rubbed him the wrong way - and worst of all, the longer he stared at it, the more it started to remind him of...he turned away with a shudder.

Wiffleball gently worked his way out of Kate's arms, being extra careful not to wake her up. Once he was free, he slid off the side of the bed, then peeked his head underneath to find a shivering Noctimus curled up in the corner.

"YOU CAИ COMƎ OUT. IT'Ƨ ƧAFƎ." He briefly glanced around the room, then looked back at Noctimus. "I...ƧHOULDИ'T HAVƎ YƎLLƎD EAЯLIEЯ. I'M ƧOЯЯY."

It didn't take long for Syndir to prepare some coffee—especially in a controlled environment such as the one he was in. He wasn't in the mood for such a rush so he thinned out the particular batch. It wasn't exactly the sort of beverage to calm his nerves, but the warmth made him feel tranquil.

Even so, his attention kept returning to the mirror, and for a brief moment he snapped slamming his fist into the glass. It didn't take much for it to shatter, and newly forming droplets of blood formed around his knuckles until it enveloped his hand entirely. He would admit that had been a pretty stupid thing to do.

It wasn't the seared side of his face that bothered him. It was the seemingly normal and unscathed side. Not recognizing your face due to an injury was one thing, but not recognizing the perfectly normal side was another. He wasn't even sure who he was anymore.

Wiffleball pulled Noctimus out from under the bed, then began dusting him off. Once he was positive Noctimus was 100% dust free, he tossed him back up onto the bed, then climbed up after him.

"IT'Ƨ OKAY. GO BACK TO ƧLƎƎP."

Wiffleball pushed his way back into Kate's arms, casting one final glance at the shape just in case.

Kate took a sharp intake of breath and sat up, blinking into the near darkness of the room and looking around confusedly. The shadow in the chair returned to the form of the boy almost immediately upon her awakening and similarly acted like he was waking up. "Kate, what is it?"

"I thought I heard something break..." she drowsily mumbled, hugging Wiffleball to her chest with one arm and rubbing an eye with her free hand.

"I'm sure it's nothing. Go back to sleep."

Curiosity was taking hold of Kate, however. She stared at the door, debating on whether or not to climb out of bed and investigate what it was.

The dragon had slept comfortably for an indeterminate number of years on rocks while coral grew on her, so this didn't bother her a bit.

(Welp, it's good a time as any to deliver some backstory while we wait for the people in the mansion to do stuff/go to sleep.)

As Meritursas falls back asleep, he dreams of the past...

(You guys can decide what part of his backstory you want to know about.)
