Brand new to the forum! Greetings! I'm female and I'm addicted to Don't Starve!

Casual gamer, really, I was looking for a new game to play and I happened to watch Etho's LP of Don't Starve. Next thing I knew, I'd bought the game. (Thank you, Klei and Etho!) Died countless times within weeks, then I decided to play it safe. (There should be a terrible consequence for any player who eats nothing but seeds and pumpkins.) Over 100 days now. Naturally, I got bored. Last night, I went on a chopping spree.

My incessant chopping spawned not one but two Tree Guards at once! I didn't even know that was possible. I was terrified. Kited the smaller one. Killed it after a while. Kited the bigger one, but I kept getting hit! So I ran into the swamp, hoping the tentacle monsters would deal with it for me, but the tentacle monsters were no match, they died quickly. I started to despair, so I ran into the pig village. Mr Tree Guard killed the pigs! I think he's unstoppable. He calmed down after killing the pigs and returned to being a boring tree. This morning, however, I walked into the village and he came back to life. :???:

Not happy with not having been able to kill Mr Tree Guard, I went after Mommy Spider recklessly. Just me and my tentacle spike. I ran with the intention of luring Mommy Spider into the nearest community of Tallbirds, hoping to spark a fight between them. But it took an eternity of running around in circles! (Is there a faster way to do this? Chased by a Tallbird, I once ran into a herd of Beefaloes. But they refused to fight each other.) Just as they started to fight, night fell, and the Hounds came. Let's just say I died suddenly and horribly, in the middle of the most epic 3-way battle. Honestly? I have no idea who dealt the killing blow.

Thank goodness for meat effigies. Heh. (I played as Wilson before I switched to being Willow. I love Willow. Especially when she says "Stupid thing needs poop." Cracks me up every time. :D )

I would love to hear about your worst (or best) battle. How long did you last? How many parties were involved? Would you do it again?

By the way, in reality, I love jumping spiders. They are tiny and cute! In Don't Starve? Those jumping spiders are horrible! Yuck! It always amuses me how spiders are always depicted as ugly, bloodthirsty villains in games. Actually, spiders are not social creatures like ants or bees. They don't live together and they don't work together. Spiders live solitary lives. Two spiders cross paths and one will make a meal of the other. End of story.

I once inadvertently caused a war between 2 spider queens and a large pack of hounds (the other side) and a village of pigs and about a dozen spiders (my side, with the spiderhat) in a swamp, with tentacles attacking everything. I pretend there were two sides, but really it was a free-for-all, there was also a smallbird involved, but he died pretty fast, and so did I. I respawned at my effigy and waited about a week before collecting the loot. It was awesome, even though all the meat was eaten, and I now always keep all food in my backpack.

5 Spider queens and some hounds at once. Also, the spider queens had spawned about 200 spiders because I let them loiter in my world for a few nights...

I had to resort to using the Spider Hat because I lost ALL my battle equipment to them (6 logsuits, 4 football helmets, tons of fire and sleep darts, and spears).

Awesome, you've got a screenshot! When I'm fighting something, I'm too busy dodging and trying not to die to hit the hotkey for screenshots. I guess old people like me are just slower like that. :D

But they are the exception. Heh. Most spiders are not sociable. I also dislike web-spinning spiders. There's just something about these long-legged spiders with bloated abdomens and webby homes that freaks me out. I prefer jumping spiders. They are relatively short-legged, big-eyed and curious, and they don't spin webs since they are active day hunters. Just talking about them makes me want to go look for them with my camera! (Weird hobby, I know.)

i dont have epic fighting but i am struggling with like 10 hounds evey 10 days :C

Try using tooth traps made with the teeth that they drop sometimes. These traps help me a lot. I get hounds every 3 days or so. I place the traps in a circle and drop some monster meat in the center to lure them. Those that don't get killed by the traps, I go after them with my tentacle spike.

That sounds like an epic fight! I have yet to involve the pigs. I don't live near them. Maybe I should!

200 spiders!? :???: That's really scary. I can't imagine going against 200 spiders. Eep. You are a brave one!

Welcome newcomer!

Thank you for the welcome! :-)

Hello Crispy. I would have to say my fight with 3 Spider Queens (at once) and afterwards some hounds with only a tentacle spike and a bunch of honey.

Hi there! Some of you guys are amazing, fighting more than a single Spider Queen at once. I try very hard to avoid that scenario. :???:

Once i went to a deep venture to the faraway islands looking for beefalos (in my world they are on 7th island) and i forgot to bring materials with me. It was sunset and i was panically running, looking for grass. I found a pig village with a pig king (who I have been looking for, too) and wanted to give him some grave items. But then - hounds! There were 4 of them and i had only a spear, no logsuit, no helmet (and no grass). They ran into the village and started a battle between pigs. The first 3 hounds died , but then came a fire hound, my first in the game. He attacked me and i panically killed him. He started a fire to the forest and i was being fried alive :p I was very lucky because i got out of this alive... with 0 HP : o Then I was even more lucky because i found 2 grass piles and survived the night.

Ehhh.... Here's what I've had to face during my Don't Starve experience... You know before the spider queen update, when 1 Wolfgang could easily farm monster meat from your 12 spider den farm? And remember that time that one kept your pigs with you a bit too long.... That's what happened to me.... The warrior spiders give me no chance to recover..... And the werepigs.... Curse you for eatin mah Foods. (kept 1 effigy with me, then burned the forest to the ground, for such awesome might must be contained.
