Any thoughts on Wes?

  Yes, Wes is a useless character. The only point of him is #hardmode. 

  Generally bored of DS (Not counting Shipwrecked), so I decided to try out Wes in RoG for sheer lolz.

  So far, I survived for half of autumm only, with my base already set up. Food is an annoying problem, as I always never have enough food since Wes bleeds hunger annoyingly quickly. Will starve in just merely 1.21 days without food, while most characters take 2 days. (Now with Wes, the game is REALLY called Don't Starve)

  Fighting is problematic like Wendy's case (at least Wendy has her sister as support)

  Was thinking off relying on pigs to help me do the fighting, but that may mean burning my already tight food supply.

  So far my character's sanity issue is okay since I rely on learning new recipes to gain sanity.... for now.

  Anybody have used Wes to survive the seasonal cycle at least? Or went down to caves and lived to tell the tale?

Rabbits are good source of food. They can give you small jerky or meat balls easy. Don't go down to caves unless you have a ham bat(you can also carry the stuff to make a ham bat and make it right before you fight) or tentacle spike or better. Besides that its the same.

 

Oh and honey is the best food in the game.

u can survive with wes forever like any other char. You should not fight 8 hounds vs wes this is not wolfgang with full stomach and dark sword to tank them or even try to kill them y yourself. Food is not a problem at all. 1.5x drain is nothing even 2x would be nothing. But most of the fights thinking to get a reinforcement is a good idea then killing your opponent by urself.

 

If you cannot find food for wes means that you cannot find food for wolfgang to keep him in normal form. This is a problem for you as I have no problem to feed wes nor wolfgang (in any form). Make 4-5-6 beeboxes and put couple of spider webs nearby. Only these things can keep you fed... Put pig houses etc.. I don't understand how finding food would be hard in this game. Name of the game is misleading as you mostly die due to some other things such as a mob attack in which you forgot to be prepared. (like no torch but suddenly night comes and you got 10 bunnymen on your tail. Though with some experience you learn how to be prepared for these situations too).

Doesn't Wolfgang in general burns hunger faster than Wes? But Wes has lower Hunger cap than Wolfgang, so.......Wes can only last 1.2 days without food while wolfgang......idk

For Wes, make honey farm, put spider dens, put pig houses nearby put rabbit hutches nearby.. Start bunnymen war to get tons of meat and carrots...

 

For some reason i dont really like putting lotta effort on vegetable and fruit farming (not talkin about berry bushes nearby) cuz it needs extra work poops, rocks grass etc too much work and u only get a piece of carrot in the end of that damn effort. And you gotta replant seeds to get new veggies and it does not even work in winter and you need always running ice fligomatic for them in summer. I hate farming. As long as you dont have a wickerbottom farming is a lot of work.. You need tons of farms to have a decent amount of veggies if you are not wickerbottom. So it takes a long time to make it a reliable food source. You can easily get 25 hunger by killing a pig and getting a meat, you can easily get similar hunger with killing couple of spiders. Sure there are some good fruits such as dragonfruit and pumpkin but in any case farming is too much work man... Put your effor to find bunny hutch to plant near your base to get ur vegetable and meat, put pig houses make lotta beebox put spider dens make birdcage and u are all set.

 

If you got a decent sapling farm and if u can find dragonfruit, dragonpie is a cheap food source too. But bacon and eggs is one of my fave food source as it can stay up to 40 days in fridge which is like jerky.

wolfgang many things depend on his hunger..

 

1)visual appearance

2)max damage that he can do

3)max hp

4)hunger drain rate

5)movement speed

 

all of these are depend on his hunger.

 

For hunger drain rate.

 

Wimpy form: 1x hunger drain rate mult (pretty much like any other char.)

Normal form: 1.5x hunger drain rate mult which is equal to wes' hunger drain rate

Mighty Form: 1.5x @ 225 hunger drain rate mult. and 3.0x hunger drain rate mult @ 300 hunger. And this hunger drain rate changes linearly between 225-300 hunger..

 

For wolfgang keep him in normal form or if you cannot even find food keep him in wimpy form and only go to mighty stage before fights. But keeping wolfgang in wimpy form while in an exploration has some disadvantages such as decreased movement speed. If you know how to find food you can keep him in mighty form to explore faster in early days or even at least in normal form to walk like any other character. if you want to walk faster when you are going somewhere and if you got food you can also keep him in mighty form (at least normal form) or ofcourse if you got a deadly rival go to might form and murder them.

 

I just love feeding this char for some reason XD. If you got wolfgang, always have at least 2 bacon and eggs or 3 meatballs in your inventory and try to craft very good weapons as fast as possible. Always look for food and dont be afraid to store them in your inventory as every other thing depends on his hunger so you gotta focus on being able to go to mighty form whenever needed. Attack everything on sight and learn how to kite. Dont be afraid to eat cooked monster meat if u are in a dire situation as wolfgang in mighty form can have 0 sanity for 20 days straight.. it is too easy to kill nightmare creatures but if you are wimpy and 0 sanity you will be having really hard times.

I started a game as Wes after playing for (in game) years as a maxed WX-78, and I don't even find it that hard. Autumn means plentiful food and winter is coming so the brich nuts will end but other than that I think I'm in the clear.
