Chamsey
Boats in this game have terrible acceleration, and i've become so used to the kiting method when fighting creatures that I don't know how to fight anything at sea with anything but the "hold F till they stop moving" strategy. What am I missing? Is kiting still valid? Should I be making harpoons before I start trying to fight things, or should I just run away? I got attacked by 2 redfins and whenever I tried to hit and run, they just immediately hit me back and stopped my boat in its tracks. Zillvr
@Chamsey, you can use the Captain Hat for faster acceleration from full stop to full speed (unless I'm mistaken) so you can move away much faster. Kiting with the Sharks is doable if they're only a few around at a time. Personally I can only manage kiting two Sharks at a time, any more than that I guide them to the nearest shore and hit them one at a time as they attempt to attack me but can't since I'm on land. The longer you play though, the latter method seems to work best. You can use Spearguns/Harpoons on them, but to me that feels like a waste. So I bait them to attack and dodge it then while they do their barking* animation is when I just whack them with my Ham Bat. I usually have a Ham Bat by the time Sharks spawn in large numbers. You could probably try Boat Cannons but those take a lot of practice to hit fast-moving targets. You can also guide those Sharks to the nearest group of Stinkrays or Ballphins, this would remove their aggro towards you and target the other creatures instead. Just be sure to not lurk back there once you've escaped. If you want to kill them off, head back slowly and kite them one by one away from each other as the others may be distracted by other things elsewhere. Aside from that. I don't know any other options you can use. Other people may have better insight on the matter though, so wait for better replies. Cheers. Flare2V
@Chamsey, you can use the Captain Hat for faster acceleration from full stop to full speed (I'm mistaken) Captain's hat decreases the rate at which your boat loses durability from sailing. Does nothing on land though; it shouldn't lose durability unless you're sailing imo. Trawl net deep seas for panflute, use panflute + BIG WEAPON to kill the sharx in 2 hits so they don't get a chance to retaliate before they're dead. That's the best method I've found so far. I don't mind that boats have acceleration but their ability to stop on a dime is somewhat confusing to me. I'd like it if the boat drifted to a halt instead of just immediately stopping so you could drive by the hell out of your enemies. It'd be a nice way to change up combat. I've experienced a "slowing" instead of a "stopping" when moving in to attack baddies so I'll experiment with it more and get back to ya. Torqueblue
Two words:Bottlenose Ballphins. Last night I was dealing with the last day of the dry season again and was about to face certian death. Sea hounds were inbound and it was in the night time with a barely lit ship lamp. I saw those guys and have to say Those guys plus the Jellyfish Have been my saving grace. Not only do they take out the sea hounds with ease, but they also block all the waves the Showers were creating. So my advice. Find your Ballphins and make a note of where they are. Drop a trap or whatever. They can and will save you from sea hound attacks. rezecib
@Torqueblue, ... unless you're Webber Yeah, kiting at sea in general does not seem feasible to me. You can make it work with the whales (although you have a very small window to get away after the first hit), but for the swordfish and hounds, apart from kiting out one initial attack from them, once you stop moving to attack, it's best to just keep attacking. As Flare has noted, though, I have found some inconsistencies in boat acceleration, so there might be a trick to keep yourself (partially) accelerated while getting attacks off. If so, I don't think anyone's figured it out yet. M1KE1STH3B3ST
Use the obsidian axe. Sea creatures can't counter attack you. Works great for whales, swordfish and small groups of sea hounds. If you can start moving a little bit after your first swing you should be able to zip out more reliably. Still relatively annoying, though. Also new pigs are fun. _Q_
If only ranged weapons were a little cheaper. As it is now the ranged weapons are a bit to expensive to mass prduce them to fight at the sea without getting your boat wrecked. _Q_
They are? I found some just lying on the ground not buried, idk if they are renewable now, need to dig in the code, if they are not renewable they should be. They are renewable, whales can drop them, octopus king and there is some land spawner for them as well. PhelsarusBeel
They are? So far i found them respawning on the very same places i picked them up earlier as well as dropping from Sandpiles so yes they are renewable. But on the other hand i'm not sure if Jellyfish are renewable since i never kill to many to try it out.
