TheKingofSquirrels
I know people are going to be against this, but I kinda like how poison is at the moment. Antivenom is really hard to get and I think that´s how it should be. If you are having trouble, just avoid spiders, stingrays (flying squirrels?), swamps and you should be fine. Tackle them ONLY when you have the antivenom already at hand. Also, if Shipwrecked ever comes to multiplayer, this is going to be such an awesome feature, I´m specifically referring to the poison spear. MoloMan
I agree. I love everything about the hardcoreness of don't starve. I see poison as some kindof mini quest. It's frustrating in the beginning but that's how it should be.I see alot of people complaining about apes too but I don't seem to have a problem with them. If they are on an island I'll simply not build a camp there or atleast not a big one. I love it when they start following you around. Now we only need Wilbur with the ability of throwing poop bombs and making moneky armies! DangerD
I agree that poison should be left the way it is. However , if you don't AT LEAST have the necessary materials to MAKE anti venom .... you're basically going to die . If you see a yellow snake and you have learned to safely kill snakes ( which is easy )then try for the gland but if there are multiple snakes then get outta there! swamps are the easiest way to come by a venom gland but the are very hard to find in my experience. As for the stinkrays.. I don't like the idea of a mob that poisons you almost indefinitely.. For this reason i have yet to engage the rays altogether.... Until i learn a reliable way to fight somthing without getting poisoned, I wont engage it . NotStarvnMarvn
Well poison lasting FOREVER is pretty weird. I love poison, its pretty cool. But come on, lasting to day 1000 with that thing is possible (apparently). Poison wearing off in 25-30 days seems somewhat fair. ThaumicParrot
While I do agree that poison is quite harsh, it's also the only truly anxious "oh-uh" feeling I get in shipwrecked right now. Without freezing to worry about, and no giants, and the overwhelming availability of food, I feeling like poison is the only real challenge and that's how it should be. CameoAppearance
I didn't even see the first yellow snake I encountered before it bit me. Admittedly Don't Starve is a game where distraction can mean death and I was watching monkeys fight regular snakes when it happened, but I'm pretty sure it was obscured by a tree before it struck. Also what I ended up needing for the antivenom and having no idea where to get was coral, anyway. It can ruin runs in the first few days, but that difficulty is what makes it enjoyable.. RoG and Vanilla were just too easy, at least once you get used to it (100+ days and survival is a joke). Once you get lucky with finding a swamp for the poison pools or get some ray spawns, it's easy to combat the poison anyways, so long as you don't get careless and get hit by yellow snakes/spiders every time you fight them. OrderedChaos
I'm a huge fan of the poison. It's one of those things that you can prepare for ahead of time easily enough, but I'm usually too lazy.Got poisoned by a hound tonight during a crazy hailstorm and spent the next few days in a panicked insane starving wet frenzy hopping from island to island looking for a venom sack. Found it with like ten hp left and made it out alive.I haven't ever had an exhilarating scramble like that in don't starve. It can be easy to avoid but if you don't watch out it can become a very serious priority. Love it. MemoriesofNemo
My discovery might be worth adding to this thread aswell; The seashell armor gives you immunity to the poison from spiders snakes and mosquitoes, while the gas mask makes you immune to the poison from swamps and stingrays, giving some additional much needed tools to fight poison. It does not however cure you if you have already been poisoned. CameoAppearance
It's not that hard to avoid getting bitten by poison snakes or spider warriors once you have some experience; spider warriors only spawn when something attacks either the nest itself or another spider on the webbing, and poison snakes only seem to spawn from chopped jungle trees rather than bushes. The problem is the poison mosquitoes. They will probably spawn in or near your base in 'spring' (I don't know what else to call it) because of the floods -- even if you successfully keep the floodwaters out with sandbags there will be plenty more elsewhere on your island -- and the mosquitoes don't stop spawning or despawn so long as the terrain remains flooded, unlike swamp mosquitoes*. They're also harder to hit than either spiders or snakes because they're small and fast and dart around constantly, like Killer Bees. It's sort of like if there was a seasonal effect that caused Killer Bee Hives to sprout randomly all over the landscape. Except at least you'd be able to destroy those if you had good enough armour to hold the bees off, whereas there is no release from the mosquitoes except the sweet release of death. *Exception: If there's no daytime (like in a Lights Out world), regular swamp mosquitoes will in fact spawn steadily and hang around until something kills them. Or until they explode from sucking too much blood. Thumbers
Everytime i die it's because of poison. Everytime i ragequit the game it's because of poison. I don't really care that it drains my health a bit but sanity level goes down sooo fast once you're poisoned it's impossible to deal with everything. I like the poison mechanics but the fact that it drives you insane in less than 2/3 days even for wilson, it's ridiculous. OrderedChaos
There are poison hounds??? (Or did you attack it with poison spear?)I thought it was a poison hound (also poison boar) but actually it was my poison spear.Pretty much don't use a poison spear unless you already have tons of poison glands. In that case go ahead, it's not like it hurts that fast, and you can't get poisoned twice lol. Gingerbread
antivenom is super easy to get. BipedalBear
The thing is, poisoned creatures should not deal poison damage to the protagonist. I have encountered poisoned werepigs and hounds, they seem to infect other creatures as well. If this is the case, what is the point of making a poison spear? I have encountered poisoned werepigs and hounds, they seem to infect other creatures as well. If this is the case, what is the point of making a poison spear? Yes poisoned creature can poison you too.. There would be 3 reason to make a poison spear. 1) Farm rot. For example crabs do spawn everyday. If you work hard you will get too much rot with a spear. Other than that no reason to make that weapon to fight till end because it is risky and poison damage is not too effective to kill your opponent instantly. 2) Use it against mobs that are already immune to poison such as snakes. (This option is to get rid of your spear. There is apparently no benefit of using it on a creature that is already immune to poison damage.) 3) Just poison your mighty opponent and leave the area such as a whale or coco tree hit once and go away. U dont have to fight till end cuz he will die. (If game mechanics takes his hp even you are away from him. I dont have idea about this did not confirm).. ThaumicParrot
I've died a few times using a poisoned spear. Its pretty retarded. Its poison, its not aids. It shouldnt be contagious like that Exactly. There's no reason animals poisoned by a poison spear should poison you back, because most creatures that you attack will fight back! It's not vampirism, If a snake bites you in real life, you can't poison others by biting them. avilmask
I don't mind it as it is, but I think it could wear off by itself after a period of time. About two days, tho. I'm fine with health and sanity drop. It's kind of penalty, or you pay with a lot of items to heal your self and restore sanity, or you look for anitvenom.Poisoned creatures should not poison you back, for sure. Aalda11
For me poison isn't hard to deal with at all, especially compared to other SW challenges. The only poisonous creature that's a bit tricky to deal with is the mosquito but the seashell suit is super easy to make so it's not a problem at all. Yellow snakes are a joke, gas swamps are rare and the stink rays are easy to run away from. The only problem is if you're careless and get poisoned early in the game. Then finding coral and glands can be problematic. It's not vampirism, If a snake bites you in real life, you can't poison others by biting them. I died one time because a stinkray poisoned a sea hound and then it poisoned me, I was sailing in the sea the poisoned sea hound damaged my boat and poisoned me!! The mechanic of the poison it's ok and pretty fun, but a poisoned mob poison you indirectly doesn't make sense at all, It's not like a contageous disease... The time I played I got more venom glands from swamps then from yellow snakes. You can outrun the stinkrays if you don't stop moving, because they have to stop to attack, if you have a sail in your boat you can outrun them easily, they have a good chance to drop the gland but if you aren't poisoned it isn't necessery to fight them.
