El Tusko and other Summery Goodness

Recommended Posts

Personally, I think if he's going to punch, he should also have an attack similar to a spider warriors leaping attack. Except instead he does a flying body slam.

somebody please draw this. Doesn't even need to be the mexican one. I just want to see it.

Figure out what he should be and I just might do that.

If it's going to be Mexico-themed, I think the animal definitely needs to be from there, too. Like others have said, a walrus just makes no sense at all.

In Mexico, we have a native dog called Xoloitzcuintli (sholo-eets-queen-tlee). It looks like this:

There's also a legend about a water dog who lives in lakes and rivers, called Ahuizotl, and who also serves the gods. They choose a victim, and then the Ahuizotl uses a hand that's located at the end of its tail to pull them into the water and drown them, after making sounds of a crying baby to attract them. Here's a statue that the Aztecs made, displayed at the National Museum of Anthropology:

And here's a modern drawing of the Ahuizotl imagined by someone else:

So yeah, there's some ideas. Personally, I'd love to see more content based on things like these. When I crafted my first Thulecite Club, I was really excited to see that it was heavily based on an Aztec weapon called the macuahuitl.

That's really cool. Perhaps certain ponds could house it, similar to how you can see Mac Tusk's campsite year round but only him in winter. There could be different tell tale signs to that critter's dwelling, though I'm not sure what right now. It could possibly appear year round, though only become hostile in the Summer as that's when it is finally warm enough for it to leave its pond or something. Alternatively, the ocean but only in very specific places. -shrug-

Xoloitzcuintli (sholo-eets-queen-tlee)
freaking Aztecs and their names, man...

Ahuizotl
I like this one. I don't know how Klei could put him in. Maybe some kind of Alpha Hound that competes with the Varg(would be nice to have this America X Europe confrontation). Or maybe some insanity thing. It SHOULD be related to summer, but it could have some different role than the Walrus, like a pond dweller. But I like it. Can only wonder how it would fit in the Klei artstyle.

I think El Tusko might be a bit..."flippity". Maybe something completely new would work better rather than using the walrus camp? I was thinking in summer you could find a "Chameleon Tavern". It would spawn a:

-MacTongue

-El Lengua (The Tongue)

-other witty name

The chameleon could have special powers such as turning invisible for a short amount of time, or attacking using its tongue like a projectile. I think it should still drop a sombrero though.

Maybe the pools dry up in summer so it has to get out and roam around looking for water... the ponds maybe?

So here.. he has a large, yet shallow pool that functions similarly to a regular pond, but from time to time, you see its head peak out the water (kinda sounds like a crocodile/alligator...) could it attack you if you try to fish? Maybe? But when summer rolls in, his shallow pool evaporates and it has no choice but to find more water... it could roam around looking for ponds but it will be too small to house him and so he just laps at the water and stays around it...

His pool could even spawn at the middle of those grass fields overly populated by frog ponds that occasionally spawns chester's eyebone... O__O

adurablu. But don't they live in really cold places?

  1. Fennec foxes dwell in the sandy Sahara and elsewhere in North Africa. Their nocturnal habits help them deal with the searing heat of the desert environment, and some physical adaptations help as well.

I had something like this in mind, too. I was thinking he could be found in certain ponds during Autumn, Winter and Spring. In those ponds, you could catch some sort of bigger or generally more useful fish but have a chance to yank Ahuizotl's hand, resulting in a small attack. Then, during Summer, he could use similar mechanics to McTusk's: With his pond nearly completely evaporated, he sleeps during the day but comes out at dusk wearing one of the various Mexican traditional outfits, looking kind of goofy, and roams around until dawn. During this time, he could stalk you and attempt to kill you if you approach his pond.

I'm definitely not against this, either. The modern drawing of Ahuizotl I posted totally fits your idea, though of course, it needs to look like it came out of Don't Starve.
